Over 150 years old, Burger Boat Company is one of the world’s oldest and most respected shipyards. They’re based in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where they have built hundreds of high quality vessels, including yachts, sailing ships, military vessels and steamers. Burger Boat Company recently announced new luxury motoryacht designs in the 88’ to 157’ range in collaboration with Gregory C. Marshall. With this new range, Burger appeals to owner-operators who want to enjoy yachting without the complexity of running a large boat.
Vancouver, Washington, is Christensen Shipyards’ state-of-the-art home base with 12 manufacturing and assembly bays geared toward the production of vessels up to 165’. They are the U.S.’s largest producer of motoryachts over 120’, and they’ve calculated that almost 90% of their contracted price goes into payroll, healthcare, local and American-made materials, goods, services and taxes. In February 2014, they announced the signing of a Custom 164’ Series project at the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show.
It’s hard to believe that ultra-high-end Delta motoryachts got their start with high-speed pleasure boats in the early 1960s. Located in Seattle, Washington, Delta has earned its reputation for durability, reliability and practical maintenance in the turbid Pacific Northwest waters, in addition to Alaska and the Bering Sea. Many a captain and owner has settled into Delta’s facility where they have watched their custom creation emerge from a facility that produces some of the world’s finest superyachts up to 238’.
Derecktor Shipyards operates two facilities in the U.S.—Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mamaroneck, NY—under the direction of the founder’s son Paul. Derecktor takes materials such as aluminum, steel, wood, fiberglass, titanium and advanced composites and turns out fine custom sailing and motoryachts and other craft. Derecktor’s most notable build is 281’ CAKEWALK (2010), the largest yacht by volume built in the U.S. and the largest private yacht built in the U.S. since 1930.
Prolific builder Hatteras has launched more than 7,600 vessels since their start in North Carolina in 1959, remaining an industry leader in the production of luxury motoryachts and sportfishing convertibles. In fact, they were the first production builder to produce a fiberglass yacht over 40 feet. Their extremely durable hulls (with five-year warranty) manufactured in New Bern, NC, are complemented by luxurious, well-appointed interiors. Hatteras is well respected in the industry and boasts many repeat and second generation buyers. No wonder they’re on our Top 10 Yachting Manufacturer’s List!
Based in Tampa, Fla., with over 50 years of boat building experience, family-owned Lazzara is known for their highly efficient design-to-completion times of 10 months and innovation in the industry, with many of their engineering concepts and assembly operations holding patents. The current flagship is the Lazzara LSX 120.
Created in 1988, Trinity Yachts is located on the Gulf Coast with manufacturing facilities in Gulfport, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Trinity currently has capacity to build to 400’. Constructing in steel and aluminum, Trinity has a respected tradition of exquisite craftsmanship, the latest technology and state-of-the-art construction and engineering techniques. This is matched by exquisite styling both inside and out, efficient sound reduction systems, seaworthiness and powerful performance capabilities. Their largest launch was NEW HORIZON (2011), a 242’quad-deck custom motoryacht.

A leader in composite construction and one of the largest producers of 85’ to 164’ fiberglass yachts, Westport Yachts are known for being light, fast and fuel-efficient while boasting excellent structural integrity. Made by Westport, turnkey Pacific Mariners—even linens, crystal and flatware come standard—are large, nimble, stylish and quiet. Westport has facilities based in Hoquiam and Port Angeles, Washington.
One of 26 North Yachts’ favorites, Zeelander’s production is based out of the S2 Shipyard in Holland, Michigan. The iconic designs and colors turn heads in the chicest waterfront locations around the world. Zeelander currently manufacturers the Z44, Z55, Z68 and recently announced explorer Z164. The vessels are known for their ease of operation and maintenance, extreme luxury and comfort. The owner’s exacting standards in engineering have created a proven vessel through and through.
