If you were in Cannes earlier in September, the new Benetti unveil of the F-125’ may have whizzed right past you! Benetti premiered their third generation of fast yachts—they already have a range that includes the Class Range (semi-custom displacement with six models from 28 meters to 44 meters) and the Custom megayachts that start at 45 meters.
Tuscan-based Benetti created and built the Fast Displacement line of composite yachts at their Viareggio boatyard, including the F-140’ which was introduced last year. With the unveil of this line, Benetti hopes to make headway in the strong, yet fairly open market of semicustom super yachts with a sportier feel. The yachts boast versatility and speed when desired but retain comfort in displacement mode and high efficiency. In addition, Benetti’s construction quality, innovative technology, exquisite design, customer service, and custom options remain cornerstones of the new product. Benetti CEO Vincenzo Poerio was the first to point out that Benetti’s 140 years of experience in yacht building successfully combined with Azimut Benetti Group’s technological expertise to create this new way of enjoying the water.
Benetti collaborated with the Azimut Benetti Group Research Centre which came up with the innovative hull design exclusively for the new range. The revolutionary D2P_Displacement to Planing ® hull allows for the sportiness and performance of a planing hull and the comfort and quiet of a displacement hull. The wave piercer bow design allows for the increased cruising efficiency (and speed) thanks to less resistance or engine strain when cruising boldly forward—up to 30% compared to a conventional hull. Of course, cruising in displacement mode will yield greater range, but this hull has been crafted for an entire range of popular speeds. Benetti notes that it’s optimized in displacement modes from 10 – 12 knots and 22 knots in semi-displacement mode with two MTU 16V2000M94 from 2,600 horsepower each powering her. At faster speeds, look for a range of 500 nautical miles; at slower speeds of 12 knots, look for a range of 1250 nautical miles.
The Benetti F-125′ is also equipped with a series of azipod transmissions uniquely designed by Rolls-Royce: the carbon Azipull 65C pod. Benetti states, “The D2P_Displacement Planing® hull equipped with wave piercer was perfected by Benetti technicians for the Rolls-Royce propulsion pod by optimizing all the stern tunnel thrusters and those elements impacting hydrodynamic coefficients. The result is an even greater improvement of the already enhanced propulsion efficiency of the pod drives.” This is a yacht engineering way of saying that the pods ensure easy handling at high speeds and low speeds while maneuvering, and importantly for guests on board, they mean comfort both in ride and sound and more space in the interior.
In reviewing Benetti’s involved and thoughtful research and design process, you come across CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) simulations, tank testing, hull optimizing, bow wave piercer and stern tunnel thruster optimization, and auto propulsion tests on all appendages. It seems like Benetti really did their homework on this new range.
The Benetti F-125’ semi-wide body (about 8 meters wide) boasts three decks and sun deck. Like the F-140’, designer Stefano Righini created a sporty exterior allowing for ample horizontal windows to accentuate the sleek lines, culminating in a large central design element at the sides wrapping the upper deck stair.
Comfort and privacy grace the interior spaces. Lounging, dining, and sunbathing spots abound throughout the Benetti F-125’—cockpit on the main deck, two large upper deck lounge areas, bow and stern equipped with a dining area, and bathing area including sunshade. As is coming fairly standard these days on yachts larger than this but now is standard in the F-125’, the beach area has a lounge, bar, bathing pads, shower, and dressing area.
Guest cabins on the lower deck include two queen size and two twins as well as crew quarters for seven. The full-beam master is located forward on the main deck. Other main deck spaces include a service area with kitchen and dinette, dining room for 10, and spacious main saloon. In addition to outdoor lounging, the upper deck provides respite from the sun in an indoor entertainment area and bar, captain’s cabin, and wheelhouse. Renowned British studio Redman-Whitley-Dixon has been enlisted to provide three different interior layouts although customization is possible.
