Snorkeling opportunities in the Keys abound, and they begin where the Keys do, in Key Largo’s John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. All along the Keys snorkeling opportunities abound, culminating in the living reefs of Key West. Sand Key is one of the most popular snorkeling reefs off of Key West. This islet, marked by a large iron lighthouse, delights both snorkelers and scuba divers with an abundance and variety of coral and marine life. With over ten miles of coral reefs of varying depths, Sand Key offers visitors endless opportunities to enjoy snorkeling that rivals any island of the Caribbean.
About 70 miles off of Key West, no trouble by charter yacht, you will find the Dry Tortugas National Park. The 100-square mile park is mostly open water with seven small islands. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, the park is known the world over as the home of magnificent Fort Jefferson, picturesque blue waters, superlative coral reefs abundant marine life, and the vast assortment of tropical birds that frequent the area.
