Horizon Yachts’ E88 packs big boat features into less than 90 feet LOA
With 26 models in eight series, ranging from a 23-foot solar-powered power-catamaran to expedition and custom yachts well over 100 feet, Taiwan-based Horizon Yachts aims to please. One of Horizon’s most popular models in its diverse lineup was an 82-foot motor yacht, which has evolved into the equally favored E88. Beyond a bigger LOA, the E88 offers more flexibility in design and layout than her predecessor, which appealed to clients looking for a yacht in the 80- to 90-foot range that could accommodate larger families and more guests.
By growing the model to 89 feet, 4 four inches LOA with a 21-foot beam, the E88 offers an impressive interior volume, which is put to good use by her spacious living areas. She accommodates eight guests in four en suite staterooms, including a full-beam master amidships. The engine room separates the master from the roomy crew quarters aft.
The E series features European styling, and the E88 has a sleek exterior and tear-drop-shape, sweeping windows. Heading inside, the entire main deck–from the salon to the dining area to the galley to the country kitchen forward–is set on one level, opening up the interior living area. The large window forward of the country kitchen allows light to stream in all the way into the salon. Designer John Lindblom, who designed the E88, sought to balance the demand for an increasingly modern look with classic lines.
Best of Both Worlds
Mixing modern and classic seems a recurrent theme in the E88 as new technologies are blended with classic sensibilities. Horizon uses a cutting-edge construction process on the E88, which it refers to as 3D infusion. This process allows the lateral, 2D surfaces and the raised 3D surfaces to be infused at once.
As with many of the E series models, the E88 can be had in either an enclosed sky lounge or open bridge version. The enclosed bridge proves the most requested, offering an enclosed helm station and second salon while there are still plenty of al fresco entertaining venues on the bridge deck, aft deck and with the forward bow seating.
A draft of only 5 feet, 8 eight inches, makes the E88 ideal for shallow running in The Bahamas and islands. Powered by twin 1,600-hp Caterpillar C32A engines, she achieves a top speed of 22 knots and cruises and a 19-knot cruise. Big-boat options include Zero Speed stabilizers, Octoplex touch-screen monitoring system, bow and stern thrusters and custom A/V and Nav systems.
