Last year we reported on the construction of Horizon Yachts innovative new hull design – – the FD85. The new FD85’s time has arrived! The up and coming Taiwanese yacht builder just announced the launch of this ground breaking luxury motor yacht, the first model in the builder’s Fast Displacement (FD) line.
Horizon says the first FD85 has met or exceeded all of the builder’s expectations and is ready to be delivered to her new owners.
This first hull in the series is able to sleep up to ten guests, sporting a well-appointed master suite and four double cabins on the lower deck. She also features floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the main salon and an exquisite formal dining area, situated to maximize the exposure to the natural light. You reach the flybridge by a pair of external staircases, where you will also find a pool and the raised pilothouse on the upper deck.
As we have noted in previous reports about Horizon Yachts, and as we saw firsthand during our recent visit to their shipyards, the Taiwanese yacht builder prides itself on customization. So, we expect that other cabin configurations will be available for future hulls in the FD series.
Unique Features of the Horizon FD85
The new Horizon FD85 has many design features that you just will not find on any other Horizon Yacht, or hardly any other luxury motor yacht in her class for that matter. That is thanks in large part to Dutch designer Cor D. Rover.
In a company press release, John Lu, Horizon Yachts CEO, said, “Cor and his team were the perfect fit for collaborating with Horizon’s in-house teams, and together we have developed an advanced fast displacement yacht that blends cutting-edge design with truly usable living and entertaining spaces comparable to most 100-foot plus yachts.”
On most yachts in this size class, you will not find a lot of open space. But thanks to Cor’s designs, the FD85 has at least 25% more internal volume than most yachts in her class. That extra space in the aft main deck for example, allows for large furniture pieces that can be easily arranged to create a very comfortable spot to overlook the transom, or even to dine “al-fresco” if desired.
The sundeck is also fairly spacious, once the tenders go into the water. The deck can then be transformed into a relaxing oasis with enough chaise lounges to accommodate just about everyone aboard.
Just forward of this area is the true al-fresco dining area fully decked-out to host all ten guests. “For the new Horizon FD85, we specifically chose to focus on a hull form that affords flexible cruise speeds without compromising performance,” said Lu. “We also wanted this new model to incorporate modern exterior styling, tremendous interior volume, and innovative features.”
Cor D. Rover added that plans for a “smaller sister model called the Horizon FD65 are already under development.”
