New Ownership and New Directions for Crescent Yachts

Posted by at 4 November, at 15 : 14 PM Print

Crescent Yachts, then known as Crescent Beach Boatbuilders began around 1986. It was founded by Jack Charles. Developing a reputation for innovation, exquisite craftsmanship, and excellence, the name was soon changed to Crescent Custom Yachts. The new name reflected a string of custom luxury yachts produced until the company’s brand name was sold in the early 2000s to an investment group. For a time thereafter, the company languished without any new vessels in production.

The Crescent brand was recently acquired by Tim Charles, the grandson of founder Jack Charles. Tim’s goal is to restore the brand to its former glory with a focus on elite custom vessels with exceptional craftsmanship.

Tim, and the new Crescent Custom Yachts seem to be moving in the right direction, with renewed production of two sold projects and more in the design stage.

New Ownership, New Designs

Speaking with the press, Tim Charles said, “I saw an opportunity to bring Crescent Custom Yachts back to life by utilizing the capabilities of our exceptional craftsmen. Crescent is a collaboration of the talents of these people and others who have worked at some of BC’s best shipbuilders such as, Rayburn Yachts, McQueen Yachts, Richmond Yachts, Queenship, and West Bay Yachts. We are fortunate to have the best craftsmen available in the Pacific Northwest and it will show in our projects.”

The first of the new production yachts  – a Crescent 145’ designed by Jonathan Quinn Barnett of Seattle – has been sold to an American client. The Lloyd-classed custom fiberglass yacht is expected to launch before the end of this year.

According the company, a Crescent 110’ with an exterior designed by Luiz Debasto of Miami is also underway, it too, has been sold to an American client.

Beyond that, a Crescent 155’ is in early design phase with clients. Also on site and ready for customization is a 115’ hull with a Jonathan Quinn Barnett adventure yacht design.
