Alexander Marine, the manufacturer of Ocean Alexander yachts, recently announced another sale of a semi-custom Ocean Alexander 72. Earlier this fall, Ocean Alexander reported a record breaking summer with 9 new sales of various models in the US. These included the new Ocean Alexander 78 Skylounge Motoryacht and an additional, new 2014 78 Ocean Alexander Motoryacht with enclosed open bridge. Ocean Alexander also moved a few 82 Cockpit Motoryachts, in addition to the 72s. Many 72s were purchased by loyal, previous owners of Ocean Alexanders. In fact, one owner previously owned a 51, moved up to a 62 and now the 72. Plans are to use the yacht in the Bahamas and South Florida and in the Northeast (for the more bearable summers).
Ocean Alexander notes that the 72 Pilothouse motoryacht offers more beam (18’ 10 5/8”), more living options and a more modern hull that boosts fuel efficiencies. Superb engineering, safety and performance are evident throughout.
Finished with exquisite exotic woods, the main salon offers openness and spaciousness. Forward and two steps up, a beautifully outfitted galley basks in views day and night from ample glass windows. A full-beam master stateroom amidships offers layout options such as lavish styling and a private staircase entry from the salon and a massive shower or large whirlpool tub for the master bath. Accommodations for guests are provided in a forward double cabin and twin-bed cabin with access via stairs from the galley. Both have ensuite baths. Crew quarters are situated aft.
Twin Caterpillar turbo diesel engines rated at 1,150hp each power the Ocean Alexander 72 to locations around the world, however we’ve also seen a twin MTU 8V-2000 1250hp configuration. LED lighting throughout offers power (and heat) savings. She draws about 5’.
Ocean Alexander currently produces models ranging from 72 to 155 and is one of the top motoryacht brands that 26 North Yachts focuses upon. Why? We like their quality design and manufacturing. Their yachts feature exquisite interior architectures, along with fine materials to construct sleek, modern hulls.
Ocean Alexander manufactures in Kaoshiung, Taiwan; China, and in the US, guided by two generations of one family over the past 35 years. They recently announced an expansion of their manufacturing facility in Taiwan to meet increased demand of the larger sized yachts. Alexander Marine says it will close the yard in China to consolidate their experienced personnel into one yard. Once construction is completed in 2015, the new expansion will more than double current capacity. Building capacity will expand from up to 12 yachts in the 72’ to 90’ range per year to 25 per year up to 112’.
As of earlier in the fall, Ocean Alexander currently had four Ocean Alexander 90 motoryachts in build, in addition to a 78, two 85’s and the new 112 model set to debut in 2015. Ocean Alexander still pairs up with US-based Christensen (Washington State) on the Ocean Alexander 120 and hulls #2 and #3 are currently underway.
Kevin Tseng, executive vice president of Alexander Marine said, “There’s been a very strong response to our designs in the 90’ and 112’ range. Many of our owners stay with us as they move up in size and we want to continue to maintain our high standards for build quality, material integrity and our renowned wood craftsmanship. We are able to fulfill that standard by expanding the Taiwan yard and bringing our highly skilled employees back into one location.”
