Ocean Alexander Sells 120 Luxury Motor Yacht, Signs 2 New Orders

26 North Yachts has been closely following Ocean Alexander’s sales this year. They’re on our Top 10 Yacht Manufacturer’s list, and they’ve had a very successful 2013. Alexander Marine, the manufacturer of Ocean Alexander yachts, recently announced the sale of the first Ocean Alexander tri-level 120 and new orders for a 72 and 78.

Built for new Ocean Alexander owners based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the 120 is built in partnership with Christensen Yachts, Ltd. Upon delivery the family, will whisk her to the Caribbean and then on to the Mediterranean for the summer.

Historically, Ocean Alexander yachts were Ed Monk Jr. designs, but this time Ocean Alexander hired Evan K. Marshall for the exterior and interior designs of the megayacht builds. This 120 Ocean Alexander yacht’s interior features black walnut and maple, with an on-deck master and four staterooms below-decks. The commercial-style pilot house features a seating area forward of the helm station allowing guests unobstructed forward views as well as a pop up flat screen TV for when the vessel is moored. Aft of the wheelhouse one will find a sky lounge with a settee sitting area in addition to the wet bar with three bar stools. The main deck hosts the aforementioned master, spacious salon and formal dining area for ten.

The exterior feature one first notices are the vertical windows of the wheelhouse and master stateroom. These windows greatly reduce glare and actually increase wheelhouse space compared to their angled counterparts. The tri-deck’s sundeck will please the pickiest of yachtsman. Multiple chaise lounges, chairs and sun pads will accommodate all manners of sun worshipers, with the outdoor bar and Jacuzzi providing additional entertainment options. The deck below features a huge dining table protected from the elements as well as additional seating. While all Ocean Alexander 120s have tender garages, there still is a davit on this deck allowing storage and launching capabilities for a 19 foot RIB.

The Ocean Alexander 120 has an overall length of 121.1’, draft of 6.5’, and beam of 25.2’. Her MTU 12V2000s push her to an estimated cruise speed of 16 knots.

The 72 with sky lounge is going to a prior owner of an Ocean Alexander (68 motor yacht). This family has been able to apply their extensive cruising experience to personalized details in their new build. A second custom order for the owner, the Ocean Alexander 72 motor yacht replaces the owner’s 62 delivery—just a year ago!  An avid cruiser to Mexico, this owner wanted a vessel to accommodate longer voyages. Ocean Alexander also related that the owner liked the galley layout with the island that allows for grander interior volumes in the galley and pilothouse.

The yachts will reportedly be delivered in the fall of 2014. Ocean Alexander was scheduled to launch a 90 motor yacht in December of 2013 and an 85 motor yacht in January 2014.

Ocean Alexander currently produces models ranging from 72 to 155. We like their quality design and manufacturing. Their yachts feature exquisite interior architectures, along with fine materials to construct sleek, modern hulls.

Ocean Alexander manufactures in Kaoshiung, Taiwan; China and in the US, guided by two generations of one family over the past 35 years. They recently announced an expansion of their manufacturing facility in Taiwan to meet increased demand of the larger sized yachts. Alexander Marine says it will close the yard in China to consolidate their experienced personnel into one yard. Once construction is completed in 2015, the new expansion will more than double current capacity. Building capacity will expand from up to 12 yachts in the 72’ to 90’ range per year to 25 per year up to 112’.

Ocean Alexander builds some of their vessels with Christensen Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash. Christensen constructs fiberglass motoryacht since the early 1990s and offers a lot of experience in big boat systems. Cost savings are a perk in this partnership—with the buying power of two, large manufacturers and a 1.5% import duty savings.
