Zeelander Yachts has taken a BIG leap forward, recently announcing the introduction of the innovative luxury explorer Z164. The Z164 becomes the new flagship in the fleet by almost 100′ (the Z68 had been the flagship). In this new model, Zeelander boldly boasts, among other things, that the Z164 will have similar running costs as a 100’ yacht thanks to reduced fuel and energy usage (and, yes, they meet Green Plus RINA Classification standards). Zeelander reportedly drew wide acclaim at the recent Monaco show when they presented the Z164 to the industry. Marketing Director Ylja Venema said, “The story around the Z164 is truly amazing and will completely change the world of long distance yacht travel.”

With meticulous and exacting Zeelander owner Sietse Koopmans steering the project, quality, excellence and attention to the finest detail will be reflected in the Z164. Koopmans, an accomplished engineer in the oil industry, circumnavigated the world over three years in a 121’ expedition yacht beginning in 2009 so every challenge and opportunity that he encountered on his adventure has been dissected, addressed and integrated into this new build. Cor D. Rover Design is back with Zeelander for exterior styling, Vripack for the naval architecture and Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design for the coveted interiors.
Interiors can be customized, and here Zeelander makes some suggestions for styles—beach chic, contemporary and nautical deco (reflecting Art Deco themes). Staterooms will accommodate up to 10 to 12 guests, dependent upon use of the captain’s cabin as a VIP. Eight or nine crew will be accommodated in four or five cabins.

Zeelander Yachts plans for ample space for toys and gear—sailboats, surfboards, wakeboards, SeaBobs, tenders and inflatables as well as dive, fishing and snorkeling equipment. In fact, one option on the vessel is to forgo the aft deck pool and convert the lazarette into a garage (which can also be a workout room, beach club or even extra stateroom).

Popular and powerful pod propulsion in the Z164 helps to lower fuel consumption of upwards of 30 percent. Environmental impact is reduced through all aspects of the luxury motoryacht—HVAC system, grey water and light bulbs. In its other vessels, Zeelander has been fastidious about reduction of noise and vibration, and their successful research and innovation has produced an almost silent ship in the Z164. Although power has not been specified, on pins she’ll top 14 knots and cruise at about 10 knots for a range of 11,500 nm and a fuel consumption of about 16 gph. Her beam measures 30’8”, and she draws approximately 8’7”.
Zeelander has entered the market like a breath of fresh air, breathing new life into the possibilities of traveling the world by water. In all its models, Zeelander looks to create easy-operating, easy-to-maintain vessels that are innovative, head-turning classic beauties outfitted in extreme comfort and luxury. You’ll see them in the toniest waterfront locations around the globe. Once manufactured in Holland, the group currently produces their popular Z44 at S2 Shipyard in Holland, Michigan. Here Zeelander has found a great partner willing to go the extra mile and meet their exacting demands and vision. While 26 North Yachts typically focuses on a megayacht range of 70’ – 140’, Zeelander has captured our attention with their iconic Z44, Z55, Z68—and now the Z164. They’ve been in high gear the last few years, and we look forward to watching their continued success. Look for Zeelander’s strong presence at upcoming shows in Sydney, Newport, Cannes and, of course, Fort Lauderdale.
