Derecktor Shipyards started with the dream of Robert E. Derecktor in Mamaroneck, NY, in 1947 to build the world’s best boats. This vision fueled by dedication to quality, attention to detail, and craftsmanship still remains today as Derecktor has set very high standards of aluminum fabrication and machinery installation, in addition to the weight conscious approach to their construction. They have become a leading custom boat builder based in North America, now operating three facilities: Fort Lauderdale, FL, Mamaroneck, NY, and Bridgeport, CT.
Under the direction of Bob’s son Paul, Derecktor Shipyards continues to transform aluminum, steel, wood, fiberglass, titanium, and advanced composites into fine custom sailing and motor yachts, high speed ferries, patrol boats, sophisticated workboats, pilot boats, and other commercial craft. Their completed vessels range in length from a 32-foot outboard police boat to a 235-foot, jet-driven, high-speed ferry. Derecktor utilizes modular construction and pre-outfitting techniques for faster delivery and therefore reduced costs.
Derecktor prides itself on being an American shipyard that can match the best of Europe in producing yachts over 200 feet (60 meters). In fact, they have partnered with Azure Naval Architects to introduce the Derecktor 60, the Derecktor 75, and Derecktor 80. Derecktor’s Marathon 90, an expedition motoryacht based on Derecktor-built “Titania” is in design as well, receiving updates in technology and equipment to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety in traversing oceans. In 2010, Derecktor delivered “CAKEWALK.” She was the largest private yacht built in the United States since 1930. The semi-custom offering of Derecktor’s 86m allows eager owners to take delivery faster on this full-displacement, oceangoing superyacht.
The Derecktor 52m Awareness (170 feet) will set a new standard in eco-friendliness and efficiency with energy consumption at 30-percent less than in a traditional yacht of comparable size, thanks in part to solar panels that produce a 10 percent energy savings. Designed by world-renowned Netherlands-based Vripack studio, the Vripack 60m Expedition motoryacht features a range of 8,000 nautical miles at 12.5 knots. The Frers 150 is a sloop named for the famed Argentine designer whose name is synonymous with racing sailboats who provided the naval architecture on this project in combination with British designer John Munford for the interiors. With a striking, powerful bow, the Derecktor 60 allows for a very spacious owner’s suite, along with six large staterooms, each with own bath and tub. Derecktor also builds a Derecktor 75 and Derecktor 80.
