About Perini Navi Yachts
Fabio Perini founded Perini Navi on the principles of intuition, creativity, tenacity, and technical capability. His knack for technological innovation came from applications in his family’s paper factory and soon applied to his passion for the sea and sailing. Perini’s frustration in finding a large-sized sailing yacht that he could maneuver on his own led him to start his own company in 1983, first in the design and engineering of large-sized sailing yachts and five years later in shipbuilding.
Perini’s market niche of “easy sailing” of a large vessel with one person or a small crew by employing a computerized and automated sail handling system eventually caught on. Perini Navi’s innovations in sailing also include weight control mechanisms and the invention of new sail materials. In addition, Fabio Perini introduced new aesthetic and architectural elements to his sailing yachts that created more spaciousness and comfort on board than other comparable brands.
Perini Navi is known today as a leader in the large sailing yacht industry with 50 percent share in the market of sailing yachts over 148 feet, known for their high quality, extreme comfort and elegance, having launched over 51 sailing yachts with several more in production. In 2007, Perini Navi Group entered the motor yacht sector with refurbished brand Picchiotti and the creation of its new series, Vitruvius.
Perini Navi Group thus specializes in the following: large sailing yachts from 131-197 feet (their core business), large sailing yachts over 197 feet and custom projects, racing sailing yachts, fast cruising sailing yachts, and Picchiotti motor yachts. Perini Navi Group produces sailboats under the Perini Navi name and continues with motor yachts under the Picchiotti division. They have shipyards in La Spezia (for the Picchiotti brand) and Viareggio, Italy (for sailing yachts); and Yildiz, Turkey (for hull and superstructure construction).
One of the largest sailing yachts in the world, ”Maltese Falcon,” boasts 289 feet is a three-masted, clipper style in steel and aluminum, with luxurious interiors and a contemporary décor. Perini Navi has recently launched “Clan VIII” (148 feet), “Fidelis” (184 feet), and “Melek” (184 feet), with a 197-foot ketch coming in 2013 and 197-foot sloop in 2014. In 2015, Perini Navi will launch a 226-foot sailing series yacht, their second-largest, building on the 197-foot series, available in ketch and a sloop.
