FLIBS 2017 may be over – but our FLIBS motor yacht special sales prices are not! We had a our classic American yacht, Checkmate, an 85 foot Burger Yacht on display at the 2017 Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show. While many visitors were taken aback by her timeless beauty, she is still available, and we have extended her show reduction price through the end of the year!

Checkmate was originally built in 1999. But do not let that fool you. Rather than showing any signs of age, she stands as a testament to lasting luxury and performance.

As her current owner puts it, “Checkmate is a wonderful yacht that has given our family and friends memories that will last a lifetime.  We are constantly told how special she is, and people who know Burgers tell us she is one of the best motor yachts of her size ever built.  We have to agree.  Our only hope is that the next owner has as much fun, excitement, and joy as we have had.”

Checkmate is not only a living legacy to the halcyon days of American yacht building, she is currently the only fully modernized 85 foot Burger on the market.

“A high quality, dependable yacht”

Checkmate’s current captain, Bob Clark, a private yacht captain for over 16 years, says that Checkmate is a “very high quality, dependable, yet versatile yacht.” He adds, “I have been captain aboard Checkmate since July 2014. This is the third Burger Yacht I have captained, and I can tell you, they are great boats at sea. I have captained other makes and models, and by comparison, Checkmate is definitely one of the best yachts that I have had the pleasure of being aboard. She is well built with great systems. Her cruising range is a real plus. We’ve taken her nonstop, from Palm Beach to St Thomas, or Palm Beach to Long Island Sound, with plenty of fuel still in reserve.”

Bob says that while her range is a major selling point, she is also great all around, and her current owners have enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, the Bahamas, South Florida, Chesapeake Bay, Long Island Sound, and New England.  “She is truly a versatile yacht, capable of just about any activity an owner could want.”

Timeless Quality with Modern Upgrades

The venerable style and quality of Checkmate cannot be denied. However, her current owners have also spared no expense to modernize her, making her truly unique in her class. “When we bought Checkmate, the flybridge wasn’t optimal for year round enjoyment or elegant entertaining.  So, we redid the configuration and now have comfortable seating areas for more than a dozen people that are protected from the wind and the elements, but still provide the feeling of being outdoors on the water.  The hardtop has a new large color television that folds down when we want it, and we updated the sound system on the flybridge and throughout Checkmate.”

They also added an oversized sun pad on the bow.  “We love to sit on the bow while we pull into a new port, or to watch the sunset at the end of another spectacular day of kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming off the swim platform, exploring a new island, or just relaxing aboard.”

Overall this is just a spectacular boat. “There is something special about owning a Burger.  Because of their aluminum construction, they are built to last over half a century.  There are still many Burgers built in the 1960s that are giving their owners great pleasure.  When we see one in our travels, we feel like we are members together of a special club…” said her current owners.

The thing about classics is that they never go out of style, and right now there is no better time to check-out, Checkmate!
