Horizon Introduces Yacht Concierge Program in Taiwan

Despite being an ’80s film cliché, the classic line “if you build it, they will come” still holds water. Although the yachting industry is firmly entrenched in countries such as America, Italy, and the Netherlands, some countries are still developing their marine infrastructure. Taiwan is one of these countries. Despite having many yacht builders based in the country, the concept of personal yachting hasn’t taken hold.

Horizon Yachts has established the Yacht Management and Concierge Service as a shorthand for Taiwanese owners to gain access to the best slips in the best marinas as well as tracking provisioning and maintenance schedules. The shipyard is No. 1 on 26 North Yachts’ Top 10 list not only for its quality vessels but also for its after-sales customer service.

Despite the country’s long history of yacht building, it has only been since December 2012 that Taiwan’s citizens could purchase a yacht for recreational boating. Horizon intends to use the concierge service to ease the learning curve of yacht ownership and keep the service focused on Taiwan.

“There was, and still is, a real need to provide them that infrastructure, which includes educating these new Horizon owners, as well as other Taiwan clients looking at purchasing a Horizon yacht, about yachts and yachting,” says Elise Moffitt of Horizon Yacht USA.

Although still in its early stages, one destination has already stood out. Dapeng Bay, on the southern coast, is only a 30-minute drive from the city of Kaohsiung. Currently there is a F2 racetrack, and soon a Mandarin Oriental Hotel will open.

If all goes according to plan, Taiwan will develop as large a recreational yachting industry as it does a shipbuilding one.
