Luxury mega sailor builder Perini Navi Group purchased La Spezia (Italy) shipyard Picchiotti in the early ‘90s. The Pichiotti shipyard was originally founded in 1600 and became an Italian builder of many types of seagoing vessels over the years from small wooden sailing boats and steel battleships to leisure motor yachts and speedboats. In 2007, the Vitruvius series of motor yachts was launched, based on the collaboration between Vitruvius Ltd., French naval architect Philippe Brand, and Perini Navi Group.
The first Vitruvius delivery in 2010, the Vitruvius Explorer 50m “Exuma” (164 feet), features a sharply defined, vertical bow, gray paint job, environmental friendliness, and her own Hovercraft. Picchiotti Vitruvius “Galileo G” at 180 feet is an ice-class expedition mega yacht that can navigate the frigid, icy waters of the Northern Baltic, even in the dead of winter. Under construction for delivery in 2013 is the Picchiotti Vitruvius C 2189 at 240 feet.
