New Bentley Takes its Inspiration from a Motor Yacht
Over the past year or so, we have reported on many new yachts and superyachts that are the results of collaborations between yacht builders and luxury automakers. Mercedes, Aston Martin, Porsche, and Lexus, are just a few high-end auto brands that have been involved in such joint efforts.
With these collaborations experiencing a significant level of success, it was only a matter of time, before the reverse was to be true, where an automaker takes some design influences from a yacht partner. Bentley has recently announced that its new, limited-edition convertible was inspired by a Princess Yacht!
The car is known as the Continental GT Convertible, Galene Edition, and it made its debut to many “oos and ahhs” at the just concluded Cannes Yachting Festival. According to the Robb Report, the limited-edition Galene, named after the Greek Goddess of calm seas, was designed by Mulliner and Princess Yachts. The impressive luxury auto is an exquisite example of what can result when two pinnacle brands share their collective creativity.
Bentley’s design group, Mulliner, worked side by side with the Princess Design Studio to create Galene, a convertible roadster which took its inspiration from Princess’s M-Series of superyachts. Specifically, the car’s gleaming white exterior, sports a sequin-blue stripe that echoes a Princess hull’s glistening water line, “as if the sea is lapping against the hull.” In addition, the darkened front and rear lights on the Galene were designed to resemble the tinted windows of a Princess superyacht, while the dark-blue hood completes its sporty, “oceangoing look.”
The interior design also picks upon the nautical theme with leather seating that gives the impression of being “surrounded by teak decks.”
The Robb Report went on to say that this collaboration between these two icons of British luxury, should not come as a surprise to anyone, since, “Princess and Bentley Motorsport recently announced a three-year sponsorship deal that brings the worlds of yachting and motor racing together at racing events where Bentley’s Continental GT3 will be competing.”
