26 North Yachts Sells Zeelander Z44
It’s not every day your yacht broker arranges a sea trial originating in Ocean Reef, Fla., headed for Miami. When your broker is 26 North Yachts and you’ve purchased a Zeelander, experiences like this are to be expected. For us, there’s nothing like watching a satisfied client at the helm of their own vessel powering into their home port. In the instance of this Z44 delivery, even Zeelander captain Rick Milroy and the surveyor team of Jonathan Sands (hull surveyor) from Atlantic Marine Group and Jeff Burke (engine surveyor) from Marine International got in on the excitement.
It was an unusual sale to say the least—from inquiry to close in about 12 days. The client actually had another motoryacht on order but had his heart set on a Zeelander. The lead came as a result of 26 North Yachts’ innovative marketing approach.
In the end, it was 26 North Yachts’ responsiveness and willingness to go the extra mile that nailed the sale, responding immediately to the inquiry and arranging a showing for the very next day. Arrangements were also made with the president of Zeelander to meet the client on a Friday evening, and the boat immediately went to contract. The team of 26 North Yachts and Zeelander worked together to put a deal together quickly and get the owner in a 2014 Z44 that fast.
The owner is a super-sophisticated international businessman with a family. He splits his time between Miami and Switzerland, keeping his sparkly new Zeelander behind his Miami home on a lift. In addition to the sexy yet timeless elegance of the Zeelander, the owner liked the arrangement. It offers options for the kids to go below and hang out in the shade while he can stay cool at the air-conditioned helm with the sun roof open. He also was attracted to the iconic Velvet Green metallic color that sets his Zeelander apart—it will command attention, but it’s classy.
Technically, he was a fan of Volvo’s Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) for his Volvo Penta IPS 600s (435hp). With a press of a button, the system holds the boat’s heading and keeps it there even in tough conditions, coming in handy while waiting to fuel or for a bridge, allowing time to position fenders and prep lines if needed.
The Z44 has been elegantly transporting owners and their esteemed guests in the toniest of locations such as Ocean Reef, Greenwich, Connecticut and of course, Palm Beach. Her beautifully contoured lines and unique metallic colors demonstrate her aesthetic appeal. Ample seating on the main deck and wheelhouse allow for engaging entertaining while in port or at sea. Below decks, a surprising two cabins accommodate guests in a master and VIP, with a shared head.
With this model’s upgraded Volvo Penta IPS 600s (435hp), she’ll top 38 knots and cruise at 28 knots. Her cruise range is about 300 to 400 nm. Sound levels can run as low as 64 decibels at cruise speeds, even with the open bridge deck. Her draft is a mere 3’, and her beam a generous 13’2”.
Zeelander President John Slate said of 26 North Yachts, “They’re phenomenal. They embody what we’re trying to do—with their video, photography and cutting edge marketing. They’re doing it right, and they are a definite partner we’ll keep in the future.”
