Ryan Owens was a highly-decorated United States Navy SEAL senior chief petty officer. In January 2017, he was killed in action in Yemen during a covert mission targeting the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Today, we were honored to meet with Ryan’s brother John Owens, himself a retired member of Navy SEAL Team 3. After Ryan’s death, John started a truly remarkable non-profit organization called the Naked Warrior Project.
Named after the legendary Underwater Demolition teams of World War II, the Naked Warrior Project’s mission is to support Special Operations veterans and their families, and to build memorials for fallen heroes in their hometowns. To say that we are grateful for John Owens coming to speak with us today – about his organization, but also about mental health issues facing combat veterans, and a host of other issues – is a massive understatement. We are profoundly appreciative for his and his brother’s service, and also for the battle that John is currently waging to help current and former Navy SEALs and their families. Thank you John. We look forward to working with you and your extraordinary organization.
