Silver Yachts of Australia is known as a builder of custom, high performance and efficient aluminum vessels. Their gleaming metal hulls that glisten and sparkle like the precious metal for which the company is named, are the handiwork of renowned naval architect and designer, Espen Øino. Founded in 2005, Silver Yachts has launched four superyachts over 230 feet in length, including the iconic 250 foot Silver Fast in 2015. The yacht builder plans to launch the superyacht, Silver Loft in 2018, which will give their line a new flagship as well as a striking new aesthetic.
However, according to a recent piece in Boat International, that is not the only thing that will be taking Silver Yacht to a new level. Apparently, the Australian based yacht builder has recently received a major influx of capital from Chinese investors. Last month, on October 26th, it was announced that the China Zhongwang aluminum group had acquired a majority share in Silver Yachts. The deal will lead to the opening of a new yard in China for building both commercial vessels and aluminum superyachts.
Speaking to the press, Guido Krass, founder of Silver Yachts, said, “Having China Zhongwang on board will allow us to continue to create and build innovative aluminum superyachts for the world market.”
Head designer Espen Øino, added, “We look forward to designing the next generation of the Silver series with China Zhongwang, for both the global and the Asian market.”
What Is Next for the New Partners?
The announcement went on to say that the builder’s Perth facility will remain as Silver Yachts’ headquarters, with the eventual aim of building a 320 foot yacht called Silver Global, which will dwarf even Silver Loft in size, luxury and style.
Lu Changqing, president and executive director of China Zhongwang, concluded, “We are delighted to join hands with Silver Yachts to navigate the high-end marine sector at full speed. The acquisition is a significant step for China Zhongwang to become an active player in the high-end marine segment, and adds considerably to our international expansion.”
The Yacht Show Season Moving Full Speed Ahead
Of course, Australia is no stranger to yachts and superyachts. The “Land Downunder” is home to the Sydney International Boat Show, which kicked off the “unofficial” yacht show season back in August, which then continued with the highly anticipated Monaco Yacht Show, which wrapped up on September 30th. And, now the season has arrived at what many believe to be the most prestigious yachting event of them all, the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, which is running right now through November 5th.
