Australian Yacht Makers Enters U.S. Market
We recently reported on Australian Motor Yacht builder Whitehaven Yachts, setting its sights on North American markets. Now, a sister yacht maker from “down under,” is also following suit. Elandra Yachts recently announced its official entry into the U.S. market with the appointment of a state side representative.
Michael Usina has been named as President of Elandra Yacht Sales in the Americas. Speaking to the press, Elandra Yachts founder and Managing Director, Luke Durman, said, “Michael is a much respected veteran of the marine industry in the U.S. and with his appointment to trade under Elandra’s American company we are on track for our projected growth…”
Usina will be based here in Florida, and will be working with a “select group of American dealers” selling Elandra motor yachts. The sold boats will be built to order and shipped from the company’s Gold Coast plant on the east coast of Australia.
The Elandra 53
The first luxury motor yacht to be introduced to the Americas will be the Elandra 53. She has been a very popular model in Australia, and the company thinks the 53 will have similar appeal, particularly for Florida buyers who are interested in similar coastal cruising.
The Elandra 53 most elegant design feature is a very broad beam that provides immense cockpit deck space, along with a well-appointed aft lounge. The expansive beam also allows for a spacious salon area, which opens up to combine a generous indoor/outdoor entertainment area, all on a single level.
The first 53 will displayed next year at the 2016 Ft. Lauderdale boat show.
Other International Yacht Builders
The Australian yacht makers are seeking to expand their presence into international markets in the face of stiff competition at home from Asian yacht makers such as Horizon Yachts. Horizon has a major Australian division, Horizon Motor Yachts Australia, (HMYA). HMYA has a large on-water display at Sanctuary Cove in Queensland, where they not only sell new Horizon Yachts, but they also have an extensive range of quality second hand vessels for sale.
Elandra and other international yacht builders trying to establish a foot-hold in the U.S. will face similar competition from the Taiwanese yacht makers, not only Horizon, but Dyna Yachts which has been up and coming. 26 North Yachts will be exclusively hosting the new Dyna 60 at the 56th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on Nov 5-Nov 9, 2015.
