If you are going to be at sea for an extended period of time aboard your luxury motor yacht, does that mean you have to give up working out? Of course not!
While some superyachts of course, are so large, that they have fully-equipped gyms or health clubs on-board, that may not be the case for the more common motor yachts in the 70 – 140ft range. But, that does not mean you need to give up your commitment to exercise. However, space and size, among other considerations, makes finding the right workout gear for your yacht a little more challenging than for your typical home gym.
Here is a list of some workout gear that either has been specifically made for, or is otherwise ideal for use at sea.
Technogym MyRun treadmill – The Technogym MyRun treadmill is rugged and stabile, which makes it great for an onboard running machine. But, it is also loaded with a lot of “smart” technology that can link it to your FitBit, or create customized playlists to enjoy tunes during your work out.
Holodia Holofit VR rowing machine – The Starship Enterprise may have had the “holodeck,” for you to have any kind of workout you wanted. Such technology may not quite be available yet for your yacht, but the Holofit Virtually Reality Rowing Machine is pretty darn close. According to the manufacturer, Holodia’s VR kit consists of a Concept2 rower, HOLOFIT computer, VR headset that will allow you row away the calories in a variety of virtual locations including oceans, rivers and beaches from around the world. A head-up display shows distance covered and speed.
RealRyder ABF8 exercise bike – Billed as the most durable indoor bike on the market, the ABF8 allows the rider to lean, turn, steer and balance through three planes of motion thanks to the use of a specially designed headset and articulating bike frame. How do you know it would be just excellent for your yacht? According to Boat International Magazine, an ABF8 was seen being loaded onto Roman Abramovich’s superyacht Eclipse while it was touring Scotland in 2015!
Bowflex SelectTech 1090i adjustable dumbbells – Space is always a concern when bringing gym gear aboard your motor yacht. That is why we love these adjustable dumbbells from Bowflex. The Bowflex SelectTech system is allows you to replace up to 34 barbells and free weights, with just one set – making them the ideal yacht weights. Simply turn the dial on the side, and you can change the resistance from 4kg all the way up to 41kg.
Cybex Bravo All-in-One – Again, with space being a concern, if you want an all in one, “universal” type gym machine to use on your yacht, you need look no further than the ultra-compact, Bravo All-in-One. It offers hundreds of different movements that can be used to build pure muscle strength as well as train for specific sports, such as golf or tennis, making it the ideal solution for staying at the top of your game while at sea. And, according to Superyacht gym designers, Gym Company Marine, Cybex is one of the best brands for onboard gyms due to their custom coloring options and use of durable materials that make the devices ideal for both enclosed and open air spaces.
Of course, if you do not have the space at all, or do not want to clutter up your yacht with gym equipment, you can always stay in shape by snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, or taking along some “manpowered” water toys such as kayaks of water-bikes.
