The prow of your luxury motor yacht slices cleanly through sparkling azure waters. You can see clearly to a coral reef many feet below. Dolphins playfully dart alongside your yacht, and for miles in every direction all you can see are scattered mangroves and lush tropical foliage.
Where are you? Bimini? The Bahamas? On this charter experience, it would be easy to think so, but, you are not in the Caribbean Sea, you are in in Florida Bay, cruising in and around the Florida Keys to Key West.
This wonderful private yacht charter destination may make you feel like you are in another world, yet, it is practically in your own backyard!
Winding Through The Keys
The Florida Keys stretch some 126 miles. The northern most Key, where you would typically begin your yacht charter, is Key Largo. The Keys are designated by “Mile Marker,” (MM). MM 110 marks Jewfish Creek the gateway to the Keys. Then traveling south from Key Largo, the most popular yachting destinations would be Tavernier, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key and eventually winding up in Key West.
There is so much to do and see as you wind southward through the keys. You can easily take an extended charter, and spend a day or two in the Upper Keys, and experience diving, snorkeling and lobster “tickling”, in the famous John Pennekamp State Park, where you will find the only living coral reef in the United States!
You could anchor at Rodriguez Key for the night or try one of the plush marinas in Port Largo Canal. Fantastic nightlife, and incredible seafood restaurants abound!
Throughout the remaining Keys such as Tavernier and Marathon you can have daily adventures visiting secluded islands, marinas and resorts, and try your hand at sailing, fishing, kayaking, and other water sports all along the way! Or you can do nothing at all and just relax in and around the beaches and sandbars.
Or, you can just cruise by in luxury and comfort, taking in all the beauty and serenity of “Americas Out Islands” and head straight for the fabled Conch Republic – Key West.
Known as the “southernmost city in the continental US”, Key West has been home to notable figures as varied as Ernest Hemingway, Jimmy Buffet and President Truman. Like everyone, they were drawn to the “Conch Republic’s” laid-back lifestyle, picturesque beaches, incredible fishing, and mouth-watering food & drink – especially the drink part!
