UK based luxury motor yacht builder, Sunseeker International, has won the Champion of British Manufacturing award at this year’s Walpole British Luxury Awards, which were held during an exclusive banquet and awards ceremony at the prestigious Dorchester in London on November 15th.
The Walpole Awards, which are now in their 15th year, celebrate the best in craftsmanship, innovation and design from all sectors of the luxury industry. Winners are chosen by an esteemed panel of judges, all of whom are key decision makers and subject matter experts on luxury design, innovation and branding. The awards were created to honor those who demonstrate excellence specifically in Britain’s luxury sector.

According to Boating Industry Magazine, the judges recognized Sunseeker as the champion of British manufacturing when considering that its manufacturing base in Dorset, produces around 150 boats every year ranging from 50 to 155 feet, and as we recently reported, has been launching new models, and showing record profits in 2016.
In a statement to the press, Phil Popham, CEO of Sunseeker International, said, “This award is a tribute to the skill and dedication of our 2,000 employees in Dorset where we have meticulously manufactured award winning luxury performance motor yachts for 50 years. To be honored amongst other prestigious British brands such as Jimmy Choo, Tate Modern, Stella McCartney and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, is a hugely rewarding experience for the whole team.”

A Luxury Yacht Maker Gives Back
The judges were also impressed with the ways Sunseeker gives back to the community and the industry, by promoting a new generation of yacht designers, engineers and builders, through a modern apprenticeship program. Over the last 35 years the luxury yacht builder has supported over 90 apprentices through the program it runs, in tandem with Bournemouth & Poole College and its specialist Marine Technology Centre.
After acceptance of the award, the company announced that it plans on continued growth with a £50 million investment over the next five years, which will see improved shipyard facilities, new hires, and new models lunched over a range of sizes and styles.
