In its second year as “Yachts Miami Beach,” the 2017 edition of what was formerly known as the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show lived up to all expectations and beyond!
The epic 2017 boating event took place February 16-20, on Collins Avenue, across from the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc hotels. By all accounts, exhibitors and management believe it was one of the most successful shows yet.
The consensus among brokers, ourselves included, was that the decision to charge admission to Yachts Miami Beach for the first time this year, was a good one. While the admission fee may have somewhat decreased the numbers of overall attendees, it resulted in more qualified buyers. We saw far more “serious” buyers stopping by our own booth and boats on display, and less “looky-loos” than in years past.

We were also impressed with the changes Show Management made that took the entire show and exhibit space to a new level, creating a kind of “VIP Experience” for all paid attendees. Attendees to the show entered through five artfully designed show entrances, each with attractive wayfinding graphics and an information booth.
Another innovation which we found very helpful this year, was that for the first time, yachts were arranged in dedicated “new” and “brokerage” sections, which made it easier for buyers to find the kinds of yachts they were interested in.
For its second year, the show featured a remarkable display of superyachts at Island Gardens Deep Harbour on Watson Island. This invitation-only “show within a show,” known as Super Yacht Miami, featured some of the largest yachts ever on display in our area.
Overall, we felt a real sense of positivity about the market from both the buyers and sellers side, which we believe is a direct reflection of the positive outlook for the economy, now that the election is over, and in light of the growth already experienced under the nascent Trump administration.
As we reported recently, Show Management, which holds the contract to produce Yachts Miami Beach along with FLIBS and the upcoming Palm Beach International Yacht Show, was recently acquired by the company which produced the Monaco Yacht Show. We look forward to what that may bring in terms of even greater innovation next year!
Our Featured Yachts at Miami Beach 2017
We saw a number of well qualified buyers express interest in the luxury motor yachts we had on display. We had on display some of the top boats and best deals currently in our brokerage inventory: Big E, a prime example of Ocean Yachts’ reputation for beauty and power, and one of our latest listings, Checkmate, an 85 foot Burger Yacht that combines the classic elegance of a yacht built in 1999, with modern upgrades that make her truly timeless, and Ti Punch, an 86 foot Outer Reef like no Outer Reef you have ever seen before.
We have taken these boats out on sea trials for a few interested buyers since the show, but they all remain available for sale, and at show special reductions!
