Riviera’s New 68 Sports Motor Yacht Wows at Sydney Boat Show
The “darling” of Darling Harbor, which was the sight of the just wrapped Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS), had to be the World Premier of Riviera Yachts’ New 68 Sports Motoryacht. Riviera, one of the largest and most awarded luxury yacht builders in Australia, revealed plans to build the Sports Motor Yacht in a 68ft and 72ft model last year.
According to the company, “The Riviera Sports Motor Yacht collection has been designed to offer the exhilaration of sports performance with the luxurious comforts for which Riviera is internationally recognized.”
Riviera owner and Chairman Rodney Longhurst, said that the two-year design and development process that resulted in successful launch of the Riviera 68, was the direct result of client feedback. “All of the owners we spoke with were seeking a new style of motor yacht. Their dream was a blue-water yacht that combines speed and sport fishing and other water sports capabilities with the confidence of high bulwark side decks, a foredeck entertainment center, fully enclosed flybridge with internal stairs, a covered mezzanine dining area and ultra-luxurious interiors.” This new Sports Motor Yacht delivers all of that and more.
More on the New Riviera Sports Motor Yacht
For the Hull designs, Riviera partnered with Dutch naval architects Mulder Design, who are known for having designed three of the fastest superyachts in the world. What they came up with for the Riviera Sports Motor Yacht is a hull that performs exquisitely at varying speeds and over a wide range of inland and offshore conditions, while delivering on the promise of a smooth and luxurious ride.
One of the most stunning and unique features of the 68 Sports Motor Yacht is her expansive cockpit. The over 130 square foot cockpit offers everything a sports fisher and water sports enthusiast could wish for as well as plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining and considerable space for storage.
For entertaining, a large barbecue unit can be found just forward of the cockpit, tastefully built into cabinetry located below the elevated mezzanine. This unit includes twin barbecue grills on the starboard side, a central sink with mixer tap and an insulated molded icebox to port. This area forward of the cockpit includes a large under-cover dining area and is connected with the central U-shape gourmet galley through a stainless steel framed door and large awning window as one large lifestyle space, positioning the chef right at the heart of a very social environment. A bar with two swivel stools under is set below the awning window, creating additional informal seating in the mezzanine. A fold-down TV is positioned in the headliner on the port side of the mezzanine overhang.
This is a Boat Built for Speed and Fun
More space for fun and entertaining can be found on the expansive foredeck, which includes a large sunken entertaining area with seating for eight. The foredeck also includes a hydraulic davit and custom Williams tender. Clever design has allowed for the entertaining and tender options to be combined so that the tender sits atop. Simply lift the tender away, ready to explore a secluded bay or beach, and the entertaining area is available. The area can be covered with a Bimini top, making this the ideal spot for sun worshippers, or to relax and savor a drink after a day’s cruising.
Power for this world class motor yacht comes from twin MAN V12 1550 turbo diesel engines, delivering 1,550 hp (1,140 kW) each through Twin Disc remote-mounted Quickshift gearboxes that integrate with the Express Joystick System. V-drives take power to Aquamet 22 Sea Torque oil-filled shafts and Veem five-axis CNC-cut propellers utilising Interceptor technology. Two other power options are offered – twin MAN V12 1800 or 1900 engines delivering 1,800 or 1,900 hp (1,324 or 1,397 kW ).
Riviera promised yacht owners “the exhilaration of supreme sports performance as well as ingenious interior flexibility with an array of luxury lifestyle features to enhance the luxury yachting experience.” Judging by the enthusiasm is which the Sports Motor Yacht was received at SIBS, they have delivered on that promise, and then some.
