In the face of every tragedy, there is almost always the same silver lining in which to find solace – and that’s people stepping up to help their fellow human beings. Such is undoubtedly the case with Hurricane Dorian and the northern Bahamas.

This can be seen in everyone, from the person on a tight budget donating $50 to the Red Cross, to all those South Florida captains whose first impulse over these last few days, personal safety aside, was to load up their boats with relief supplies and get over to Grand Bahama ASAP.

Yacht owners are stepping up too. At this very minute, the 47.24-meter Christensen “Loon”, the 55-meter Amels “Gene Machine”, and the 73.2-meter Delta “Laurel” are on their way to deliver badly needed supplies to Marsh Harbour and other affected areas. More superyachts are expected to join this effort, which is being coordinated by YachtAid Global and its partners.

Hurricane Dorian might have shown us Mother Nature at its worst – but its aftermath has illustrated human nature at its very best.
