At the very beginning of an all-out nuclear war, the commanding officer of an Ohio-class submarine would, within minutes, receive the most consequential radio transmission in human history – he would be ordered to immediately launch his submarine’s nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles in the direction of one or more foreign countries. That order would have originated with the National Command Authority, comprised of the President and Secretary of Defense, and then rapidly moved down the chain of command. Whatever happened after that would be, at a minimum, utterly catastrophic. Happy Friday!
Amazingly, Tom Fexas, the legendary yacht designer, played a critical role in the development of the Ohio-class submarine, when he worked for General Dynamics in the early-to-mid 1970s as a nuclear project engineer. And while we’re not going to argue that Tom Fexas’ hull design of the 2005 68′ Cheoy Lee “Venture” is QUITE as weighty as his work on nuclear subs, we’ll let you decide.
“Venture” is a very clean, surprisingly roomy, and exceedingly well-engineered yacht. She has Naiad stabilizers, robust CAT C-18 engines, and a phenomenal three stateroom/three head layout. “Venture” also boasts a rarity for a 68-footer – an on-deck dayhead. Her A/C, batteries, and electronics have been recently updated and she just had a new EZ2CY-type enclosure installed on her flybridge. Very impressive, especially in light of her $999,000 asking price. But if you’re still on the fence about her, just remember that Venture’s extraordinary hull was designed by Tom Fexas – a man who understands a thing or two about building a reliable vessel.
