A yacht charter is truly a once in a lifetime vacation. There are very few other ways to experience all you can on a private yacht charter, all under your complete control! While your charter broker is an expert in making your charter the most memorable vacation of your lifetime, still, there are things you can and should do, before you book your charter, which can improve your experience.
Here in no particular order are our Top Five Ways that can help you get the most enjoyment out of your yacht charter.
Plan ahead – This may sound like a “no brainer” but there is an old expression that says “fail to plan, plan to fail.” You can enhance many aspects of your yacht charter experience by working with your broker, and honestly expressing your desires. Remember, your yacht charter broker is here to make sure you love your trip. So, if there is a particular brand of Champaign you like, or of other wines or spirits, tell your broker, and he or she will be sure to have them on board. The same is true of everything from your favorite foods, to the places you want to visit, to the water toys you want to have available. The more you share your desires in advance with your broker or Captain, the more pleasurable your yacht charter will be.
Hire a private chef – One of the most popular “add-ons,” to a yacht charter is to hire a private chef. This will add a level of luxury to your charter experience that is unprecedented in any other kind of vacation. Of course it means you will never have to cook you own meals, but beyond that, with a private chef on board, every one of your culinary fantasies can be indulged, from a midnight snack, to breakfast on the flydeck.
Consider a nanny – If you are taking a family charter, almost as important a hire as a private chef, could be a Nanny. Do not think the crew will be responsible for your kids on your charter. They have other jobs to do. If you want to be able to unwind completely, and have some “me time” away from your kids during your charter vacation, bringing along a nanny is a very good idea.
Know what to bring – Another key to having a great charter experience is knowing what to bring along – and what not to. It is important to pack smart. Discuss your travel itinerary with your broker, and he or she will be able to best advise you how to pack appropriately. One thing for certain, take less shoes than you would on any other vacation – be prepared to spend a lot of time barefoot!
Assignment of cabins – If you are traveling with a group of couples on your yacht charter, make sure the boat you choose has the appropriate number of cabins, with the amenities that match your guests’ “contribution” to the charter. If you and your charter guests are not splitting the costs of the charter evenly, then the one who is paying the most, or actually signing the charter document is entitled to the best, or “master suite.” If it is more of an “even split” among charter guests, then be sure that the boat you choose generally has VIP cabins of equal accommodations, so no one feels slighted.
