Darling Harbor in Sydney, Australia has been transformed into a dazzling spectacle for boating and yacht enthusiasts, as the well-known destination plays host to the 50th Anniversary edition of the Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS), which began on August 3rd, and runs through, August 7th.
For its 50th year celebration the show has returned fully to Darling Harbor, with the Show taking up the whole of the newly built International Conference Centre Sydney (ICC), and the nearby marina at Cockle Bay.
SIBS may be in its 50th year, but it is not showing any signs of age, or slowing down. In fact, for the local economy and for many in the marine industry, it remains the single most important business event of the year.
In a statement to the press, Boating Industry Association (BIA) CEO Howard Glenn said that he expects this year’s show to be the best yet. “The Sydney International Boat Show is a tremendous opportunity to display all that recreational boating has to offer. The 50th anniversary is a testament to the popularity of the boating lifestyle. We welcome people from all walks of life that are passionate about spending time on the water.”
Yachts and Superyachts on Display at the Sydney International Boat Show
As you might imagine, Riviera, being Australia’s largest boat builder, will have an enormous presence at SIBS. This year the company will be displaying nine models in total across both the Riviera and Belize ranges, including the world premiere of the Riviera 68 Sports Motor Yacht which has been designed for blue-water cruising. Speaking about what drove the development of the Rivera 68, Riviera owner and chairman Rodney Longhurst, said, “All of the owners we spoke with were seeking a new style of motor yacht. Their dream was a blue-water yacht that combines speed and sport fishing capabilities with the comfort of high bulwark decks, a foredeck entertainment center, fully enclosed flybridge with internal stairs, a covered mezzanine dining area and ultra-luxurious interiors. This Sports Motor Yacht comprehensively fulfils that brief.”
Along with the new Riviera 68, Riviera will also be shining the spotlight on their 6000, 5400 and 4800 Sports Yachts, as well as the 525 and 445 SUV models and the 52 Enclosed Flybridge and 43 Open Flybridge models. The Belize display will include a presentation of the latest Belize 66 as well as showing the 54 Daybridge model.
According to MarineBusiness magazine, fellow Australian builder Maritimo, will also have a strong presence at SIBS, showcasing six models, including the debut of its new S70 motor yacht.
Other noted manufactures include, Eyachts, E Marine Motor Yachts, Fleming Yachts Australia, and the first time at SIBS, US-based Hudson Yacht Group, which will be displaying the Hudson Powercat 48.
As usual, in addition to the complete list of yachts, there will also be an abundance of booths and “off water” exhibitors offering everything from fine watches and jewelry to newly developed virtual reality technology for yachts!
The Yacht Show Season Moving Full Speed Ahead
The Sydney International Boat Show, kicks off the “unofficial” yacht show season, which continues with the highly anticipated Monaco Yacht Show September 27th, which continues through 9/30, and then the season steams “ahead full,” into our area’s premier yacht and boating even, the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show.
The 58th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) will take place this year from November 1 to November 5th. A wide variety of boats will be on display including runabouts, sportfishers, high performance boats, center consoles, cabin cruisers, flats boats, skiffs, express cruisers, motor yachts, bowriders, catamarans, and of course an equally breathtaking array of superyachts.
