Riviera Reveals Plans to Build All New 68ft Sports Motor Yacht
Back in May, Riviera Yachts, one of the largest and most awarded luxury yacht builders in Australia, revealed plans to build its Sports Motor Yacht. The new Rivera Sports Motor Yacht will be available in a 68ft and 72ft model.
In a company press release the company revealed that construction of the first of the line – the 68 – is now “well under way,” in their boat yard on Australia’s Gold Coast. The new yacht models are described as “long-range and luxurious Sports Motor Yachts, each with up to four luxurious staterooms and optional crew accommodations.”
The 68 Sports Motor Yacht will make her World Premiere at the Riviera Festival of Boating in May 2017, almost exactly a year after plans to build her were first announced.
More on the Design and Build of the New Riviera Sports Motor Yacht
A design brief provided to the press, described in details the process of building the new Rivera Sports Motor Yacht. “The design team started by conducting extensive consultations with Riviera customers world-wide. This process provided the in-house team with a unique understanding of the aspirations of owners in regards to their ultimate dream yacht. The common theme among those consulted was the desire to take their boats further afield, and for extended periods.”
Armed with that information, the yacht builder’s in-house design team then “began drafting detailed preliminary designs for discussion with the wider new model development team, which included engineers, master craftsmen and senior management.”
In the next phase, the luxury motor yacht builder, made extensive use of 3D Computer Aided Design techniques, and sought out the most innovative technologies to incorporate into the sports yacht design. “We used this process to decide on everything from the selection of the Sports Motor Yacht’s MAN V12 engines as base power, Aquamet 22 Sea Torque oil-filled shafts, struts and glands to connect the Twin Disc remote-mounted Quickshift gearboxes which integrate with the Express Joystick System, right on through to the use of Blum soft-close runners for the cabinetry drawers, and the selection of premium timber finish for the drawer interiors.”
The design brief continued, “…throughout the 2016 Festival of Boating, we listened and learned from the experiences and observations of our experienced boat owners, and we incorporated many of their suggestions into the design – ultimately deciding on 68ft and 72ft models to suit individual cruising applications.”
As far as where the construction is right now, interior prototypes have been created, and tank-tested, and the builder says, “The inner molds for the deck and heads have also now been completed, and work on the main deck mold and the flybridge mold has begun.
