South Florida’s Best Fishing Tournament is Almost Here!

Now is the Time!

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Naked Warrior Fishing Tournament, taking place on Saturday, July 25th – and we highly encourage everyone to sign up ASAP! Here’s why that’s a great idea…

Let’s start with the fact that there’ll be hundreds of anglers at the tournament, competing on dozen of boats. What does that mean for you? Among other things, it means there’s a lot of prize money on the line. The winning team received a $5,000 check last year, and we anticipate this year’s tournament being even more lucrative across every prize category (including separate cash prizes for both Juniors and Women!).

But winning a cash prize isn’t the ONLY way to have this tournament pay for itself – last year, our silent auction was “deal rich”, and that’s putting it mildly. A $4,500 watch for a fraction of the price? That’s just one example of what’s possible this year. We’re still collecting silent auction items, but, rest assured, you’ll be thrilled at the spread we’re preparing.

But let’s assume a worst case scenario – you don’t win any prize money and you’re not interested in the silent auction. No problem. The incredible food, ice-cold beverages, and live music that awaits you (and up to three guests) will be well worth the cost of registration. And we haven’t even mentioned that there’s a pre-tournament kick-off party on Thursday, July 23rd! That’s going to be a blast too.

If you’re still on the fence, just check out the video below, and you’ll see how much fun last year was – and then remember, the 2020 edition will be bigger & better!

Want to sign up? Terrific, you can do precisely that at an early-bird reduced rate of $475 per boat (includes 4 anglers) by clicking here:

By the way, this is all for a terrific cause…

Of course, we saved the #1 reason to sign up until last: ALL proceeds from the tournament will go towards Naked Warrior Project, a truly exceptional 401(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Naked Warrior Project: Where It All Began

Ryan Owens, pictured below, was a highly-decorated United States Navy SEAL senior chief petty officer. In January 2017, he was killed in action in Yemen during a covert mission targeting the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

In November of 2018, we had the distinct pleasure of meeting Ryan’s brother, John Owens, who himself is a retired member of Navy SEAL Team 3. Our whole office was there, as you can see below. We learned first-hand all about Naked Warrior Project, and this is what we found out…

After Ryan’s death, John Owens decided to start a non-profit in his honor – that organization would be focused on building memorials for fallen Navy SEALs and other Special Operations warriors in their hometowns, and assisting their Gold Star families. But that’s not all. Naked Warrior Project also helps injured Navy SEALs, as well as others, in their recovery.

During our initial meeting with John, everyone was incredibly moved by his story and by Naked Warrior Project’s mission. That’s when we first started thinking about co-hosting a fishing tournament. We also had a lot of questions.

Navy SEALs in Afghanistan

A natural question is, “What’s a Naked Warrior?”. Well, as we soon found out, “Naked Warrior”, along with “Frogmen”, were the nicknames for the men who comprised the legendary underwater demolition teams of World War II. On June 6th, 1944 – a day better known as “D-Day” – these demolition teams covertly penetrated two of Normandy’s beaches (codenamed Utah and Omaha) during the pre-dawn hours of what would become one of the most consequential days in history. They were armed with little more than a K-bar knife and, of course, explosives.

The teams, made up entirely of volunteers, wreaked havoc on German forces and helped clear the way for the Allied invasion. You can read all about the heroics of the “Naked Warriors” right here:

Though the first two Navy SEAL teams would not be formed for another 18 years, it was these WWII-era underwater demolition teams that provided the foundation for what would ultimately become the most fearsome, highly-trained special operations force in the world.

A Little Bit More About “Naked Warrior Project”

John Owens and his wife, Holly, devote a tremendous amount of time every year to raising the funds that are required to fulfill their organization’s mission. While of course we think the annual fishing tournament is the best, truth be told, all of their events are incredible.

Every November, there’s the Ryan Owens Memorial Run, a 4 mile beach run that will tax even the most athletic participant. Then there’s the TopGolf Event that’s held every May in Minneapolis, as well as a MASSIVE golf tournament every July at the Elyria Golf Club in Elyrian, Ohio.
