Naked Warrior Project & 26 North Yachts

Anyone who’s even vaguely familiar with 26 North Yachts knows that we’re huge fans of Naked Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that supports Special Operations veterans and their families, and builds memorials for fallen heroes in their hometowns. In fact, when we first heard about the amazing work that this organization was doing, we proposed co-hosting a fishing tournament with them, with all proceeds going to support the Naked Warrior Project and its extremely worthwhile work.

That “small” tournament, held in March of this year, ended up turning into a massive forty-boat competition, followed by an equally large, insanely-fun party afterward. It was an event that few will ever forget – and more importantly, we raised a ton of money for a great cause.

The Perfect Weekend for a Boat Ride…

Fast forward to last weekend, when there were a large number of Naked Warrior Project supporters in town for The Ryan Owens Memorial Run held in Deerfield Beach. As a little background, Ryan Owens (pictured with Air Force One below) was a highly-decorated United States Navy SEAL senior chief petty officer. In January 2017, he was killed in action in Yemen during a covert mission targeting the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. After Ryan’s death, his brother, John Owens, who is a retired SEAL himself, started the Naked Warrior Project along with his wife Holly.

So, getting back to this weekend…a ton of Ryan’s and John’s friends were in South Florida for The Ryan Owens Memorial Run – a highly-competitive 4-mile beach run – and many of those friends are, not surprisingly, current or retired Navy SEALs. Obviously, as yacht brokers who want to say “thank you” to American heroes in any way possible, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take this group out for the afternoon on one of our client’s luxury yachts.

The motor yacht was a gorgeous 84′ Lazzara, and we are tremendously grateful to her owner for making his vessel available. While we would HAPPILY do the same thing every day of the year with such an esteemed group, it was particularly gratifying to be able to do so on the day before Veteran’s Day.

We met at Shooters Waterfront in Fort Lauderdale and boarded the yacht. Of course, we made sure there were plenty of cold drinks & sumptuous hors d’oeuvres on board for this special group. What, did you think we would honor some of the bravest men in the world with warm beer & potato chips? No, that wasn’t going to happen.

Moving on…from Shooters, we made our way north through a few bridges and then started the trip down south to our ultimate destination, The Wharf. Have you heard of this place? If not, you’d be forgiven – it did, after all, open up just a few days ago. It’s a huge “Open Air Special Event” space featuring a bunch of bars and food trucks. The place was absolutely packed, so most of our party stayed on the yacht and simply enjoyed the scene from the flybridge. After that, it was a quick trip back to Shooters, where everyone disembarked. And that was that – a phenomenal day with a terrific group of people.

Enjoying Sunday with Navy Seals

The 26 North Yachts team had an incredible time on Sunday. It was the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with old friends and make some new ones as well. But here’s the even better part – we’re NOT going to have to wait until next November to see everyone again (though we’re surely going to make this yacht outing an annual event). No, we think there is an excellent chance that almost everyone who joined us this past weekend will also be in attendance for the 2nd Annual Naked Warrior Project Fishing Tournament.

You’ll be hearing a lot about this event, scheduled for March 21st, 2020, in the coming months – it’s going to involve huge prize money, a something-for-everyone silent auction, America’s best steel drum band, and, of course, an unbelievable selection of food & drink.

You can buy your tickets here: https://nakedwarriorproject.org/events/naked-warrior-project-fishing-tournament/

Hope to see you there!
