It is with great pleasure and excitement that we can now join with Fins Attached to announce that the launch of the research yacht, Sharkwater, which was scheduled to coincide with World Ocean Day last month, but had to be delayed, has now been rescheduled.

Fins Attached has announced the new date for the christening event is Thursday July 27, 4-7pm at the Bahia Mar Marina. You can still reserve FREE tickets by following this link. We hope to see you there!

As brokers of luxury motor yachts, it has always been part of the mission of 26 North Yachts to advocate for the conservation and the responsible use of our oceans and inland waterways.

As the yacht brokers who facilitated the purchase of the new research yacht for Fins Attached, we share their commitment to protecting sharks, and educating the public about these amazing apex predators of the deep, and the vital role they play in the marine ecosystem.

The yacht, which started its life as Senshu Maru, a Japanese fishing vessel, was converted and renamed Sharkwater, in honor of long time shark advocate and close associate of Fins Attached, Rob Stewart, who recently died in a dive accident during the filming of the sequel to his award winning documentary of the same name.

We will soon be coordinating with Fins Attached to offer charters aboard Sharkwater, so you can experience firsthand the remarkable work that they do.

The Mission of Fins Attached

The mission of Fins Attached is to protect and preserve endangered sea life, particularly sharks, many species of which are threatened, because these magnificent predators are stripped of their fins to satisfy the demand for shark-fin soup, a delicacy around the world. The shark is typically alive when their fins are cut off, and they are then tossed back into the ocean to die, hence the organization’s name, “Fins Attached.”

Gaining its own research expedition vessel for the first time will allow the nonprofit to expand its mission to research sharks, and to educate the scientific community and the lay public alike, about the vital role sharks play to the ecosystem, as the oceans apex predator.

At 26 North Yachts we encourage all yacht owners and charter yacht vacationers, to recognize their responsibility as stewards of the environment, and the vital role they can play in protecting the environment and preserving our world’s oceans.
