The Seattle Design Center’s 15th Annual Northwest Design Awards recently announced winners at a gala that included Westport Shipyard’s interior designer Teresa Francis. In the ‘Exotic Retreats’ category, Francis took first place for a Westport 130 luxury motoryacht and second place for a Westport 112. Entrants were evaluated on proportion, use of space, materials and design solutions. Enthusiasts may recall seeing two new Westports last fall at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show— a new Westport 112 with an on-deck master layout and updated Westport 130.
The Westport 112 with its classic, American styling and interiors has been very popular—Westport says they’re delivering about three per year with over 50 delivered in total! We’re still awaiting word on the launch of the most recent 112, scheduled for spring 2014. Westport is still using its original Sarin-designed hull, however Taylor Olson has implemented a more modern profile and new configuration options. The Westport 112 allows for an open, spacious salon accented by large and numerous windows.

While there is the ability for customization in décor and interior options, the basic platform is fixed in the Westport 112—so no moving bulkheads and stairways. As the vessel has evolved, it now offers a second arrangement with four guest staterooms below, adding a main deck master forward where the country kitchen has traditionally been in the classic edition. The Westport 112 still sleeps up to eight in four ensuite rooms (however, remember the main deck master option), including a VIP stateroom and two guest cabins. She can accommodate up to five crew in three crew cabins.

The Westport 112’s outdoor areas are welcoming with a large bridge deck outfitted with generous lounge seating, a sun pad, full-service bar and hot tub. A raised settee can accommodate four guests that will enjoy stunning sea and coastline views from windows on three sides. Aft, the bridge deck with custom hard top can accommodate a 2,000-pound davit, chocks for a life raft and outboard powered tender (standard). On the main aft deck, memorable meals will be celebrated at a dining table serviced by a nearby grill and full wet bar.
The advanced Westport 112 hull configured with twin MTU 16V 2000s delivers high performing cruise speeds of 22 knots, max speeds at about 25 knots and a range of 2,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. She boasts a moderate draft of 5’6” and a 23’9” beam.
The first Westport 130 actually debuted at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show back in 2001. A recent launch of the 130’ FRUITION featured naval architecture by William Garden and exterior styling by Taylor Olson. Luxury, convenience, reliability and performance were thoughtfully considered. She’ll accommodate 10 guests in a master suite on the main deck and in four double cabins (all en-suite) on the lower deck. Crew quarters for eight include two staterooms with private head and showers.

Many outdoor areas on multiple decks are dedicated to entertaining with various seating arrangements for cozy couples or gregarious groups, including a hot tub on the sundeck. On the upper lounge aft deck there is room for tender and toys. On the main deck, seating for eight aft at a decorative table awaits hungry guests (and convenient day head forward of the main salon for when nature calls).

FRUITION’s twin 2,735hp MTU diesels yield top speeds of 24 knots and cruising speeds of 20 knots. It’s been reported that at 11.5 knots, she’ll cover a range of 2,300 nautical miles. Guests will appreciate the minimal vibration and quieted acoustics which have reputedly been reduced to levels of a luxury car. Her beam is 26’ and her draft 6’6”.
26 North Yachts has included performance-bred Westport motoryachts on their Top 10 List. They’re the U.S.’s largest builder, founded in 1964 with commercial fishing boats in the North Pacific, contributing to their strength today as a builder of seaworthy, luxury motoryachts. In fact, Westport is currently one of the largest producers of 85’ to 164’ fiberglass yachts, yielding from one of their three Washington-based yards. They’ve been pioneers in composite construction, and their hulls feature excellent structural integrity. Westports are light, fast and fuel efficient. Westport has been rumored to be considering some bigger builds—up to 30 feet longer—thanks to customer demand. If they go for it, it will be a game changer, bringing them into a new tonnage class where they are currently under 500GT in their fleet. Stay tuned!
