Move over “Azzam”, the world’s largest yacht is now the Research Expedition Vessel “Ocean”. Built by the Romanian shipbuilder VARD, this just-launched, record-setting vessel clocks in at a staggering 183 meters and 17,440 gross tons. Her range is an incredible 21,120 nautical miles at 11 knots. She tops out at 17.8 knots.

When conducting research, “Ocean” will be able to carry up to 60 scientists and 30 crew members. When she’s in full-blown luxury charter mode, this monstrosity of a yacht is expected to accommodate 36 guests and 54 crew members. The next stop for “Ocean” is the VARD shipyard in Norway, and then it’s on to Germany for final outfitting. Delivery is scheduled for Q1 2021.

No word yet on this history-making vessel’s post-delivery itinerary – but we sure hope to see her in Fort Lauderdale at some point in the early 2020s.
