Whitehaven Motor Yachts Looks to Expand into American Market

Whitehaven yachts was started in 2010 by Australian billionaire Bruce Scott. Scott made his fortune rising to the top of Australia’s refrigerated transport industry. In 2014, he sold the 63 year old family business – Scott’s Refrigerated Freightways – for $116 million.

After the sale, he decided to move from the roadways to the seaways, and pumped $7 million into Whitehaven Motor Yachts. He partnered with Bluewater racing veteran Keith Hanson to create Whitehaven.  Scott and Hanson leveraged the advantages of the Taiwanese shipyards, by having the yachts built in Taiwan, but gave them an Aussie appeal, by having them outfitted with Australian appliances and systems.

Whitehaven unveiled its 6000 motor yacht series at the Sydney International Boat Show, this past August. The Whitehaven 6000 is available in a Flybridge, Coupe and Sun Bridge variations. The luxury motor yachts were very well received in Sydney, and now Scott hopes to introduce the boats to new markets, including the United States.

Speaking with Trade Only Today, Scott said, “The U.S. is a big market for Australia but also a competitive market, so price is a key factor, and China continues to be a hard market, despite all the hype about the growing middle class, the number of millionaires and so on…”

More on the Whitehaven 6000

According to the company, the 6000 Flybridge took its inspiration from the very popular 68 Flybridge design, largely regarded as one of the “finest flybridge motor yachts ever built.”  The 6000 Flybridge can be built with various interior designs and layouts, including a unique contemporary forward or aft galley saloon flowing through to a euro inspired cockpit, a flybridge layout that Whitehaven claims, is “unmatched in the current market.”

She has also been designed to provide speed and performance, while still delivering as smooth a ride as possible, leveraging a state-of-the-art hydro-dynamically designed hull.

The 6000 also sports flares and amenities that are designed to complete with some of the top Made-in-Taiwan Yachts such as the new Dyna 60, including:  a full gloss or satin timber finish, a wide variety of premium leather seating options, and high quality  stainless steel appliances.
