Would You Be Interested in a “Sports Utility Yacht?”
Over the past few years, Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs, have been an increasingly popular class of cars, but have you ever heard of a “Sports Utility Yacht?” That is the way designer Fulvio De Simoni is referring to the latest concept yachts he is working on in collaboration with MC Yacht International and French shipyard OCEA.
The project entails the superyachts, the 144-foot OceaNemo 44, introduced several months ago, and continues with the shorter OceaNemo 33 that was just unveiled at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival.
According to the builders, the idea of the “Sport Utility Yacht”, or SUY, is to be “engineered from the ground up for fun and lots of it.” That means, while they do not skimp on luxury, they have been designed to carry all kinds of water toys from simple jet-skis to the more exotic, such as; helicopters, hovercraft, and even personal submarines.
And, the full-scale “garage” on the SUY means those are not the only toys she can carry. The “hanger,” on the OceaNemo 33 can keep a 23-foot tender and a 15-foot crew tender, and still have room for multiple personal water craft. Or, the eventual owner of the OceaNemo 44 will even have room to take along an exotic roadster to enjoy on-shore excursions! The partners have said, “some people live in apartments and tiny houses half the size of that hangar or even smaller.”
Other Features of the OceaNemo Sports Utility Yacht
As if the “hanger space” described above was not enough to hold all the exciting toys the adventurous yacht owner could imagine, the Oceanemo 33 also sports a 495-sq ft. deck that can hold a 19-foot sportfishing boat, plus 19-foot sailboat, or the owner could park his personal submarine and/or hovercraft here, with still space to store and deploy an inflatable water slide!
Don’t think that all that space for toys that went into the design of the SUYs has made them look and perform like a freighter! Nothing could be further from the truth. That, says De Simoni was the most challenging aspect of the design. And yet the team managed to create all of that space for cargo, without compromising on luxury and style.
The 33 has a spacious VIP main cabin, and four well-appointed guest cabins, along with three crew cabins. There are multiple decks that provide areas for outdoor dining, space for a bar, and an upper deck lounge with plenty of space for sun-worshipping.
Her standard 475-hp Cat C18 engines deliver a top speed of 13-knots, not bad for carrying all of that gear, and owners who have the “need for speed,” have more than enough space to bring a speedboat along with them!
