Statement by American Tug about the 485

The pinnacle of the American Tug fleet, the AT 485 was designed for the yachtsperson looking to explore beyond the horizon but who refuses to leave the comforts of home behind. The seakeeping ability of its hard chine, full-length keel hull will keep you calm even in the roughest of conditions. With a range of 1500 nautical miles, the 485 is ready to take on your next adventure.

Sharing the same stateroom layout as the 435, the primary stateroom features a beam-to-beam layout with generous storage and an ensuite head. The guest stateroom has a Pullman queen (with an optional bunk above) and an additional ensuite head. The pilothouse offers excellent sight lines, generous spaces, helm chair and passenger seating with access doors to port and starboard.

As compared to the 435, the 485 provides five extra feet of length in the salon devoted to galley and dining space, as well as a dedicated entertainment area. The large U-shaped galley features both more storage space and more elbow room than our other models. Opposite the galley, a large dinette provides comfortable dining space for four adults.

On any extended adventure, the 485 offers all the comforts of home for relaxed, sociable living. Its salon has room for two lounge chairs and ottomans opposite a large L-shaped settee that also converts to a double berth.

Standard equipment on the 485 has been designed with the comfort and safety of a cruising couple in mind. This equipment includes variable speed bow and stern thrusters, an upper deck crane with hydraulic lift and rotation and an upper deck walk-through from the pilothouse in lieu of a vertical ladder.

Handcrafted in the USA.

The 485 American Tug offers an open concept main salon and pilothouse which is great for the helmsperson that can see clearly from the pilothouse helm to the aft deck. The tugs interior is finished in a beautiful satin Sapele with smartly designed cabinetry that offer exceptional storage. The salon, galley & pilothouse offer a teak and holly sole with lush carpeting in the owner’s suite and VIP staterooms. Corian countertops and Stainless-Steel fixtures make for a clean and sharp appearance. LED lighting throughout the tug, including valance and floor lighting. The vessel offers a reverse cycle air-conditioning/heating system with units in the salon, pilothouse, owners suite and VIP staterooms.

The salon offers a large port side L-shaped settee that converts into a double bed and is covered in Ultraleather upholstery, two Stressless chairs and ottomans, a hi-low Sapele coffee, storage cabinet, a built-in top load freezer and a 40” flatscreen TV that’s recessed into the face of the galley cabinet and can be easily viewed from the all-salon seating spaces.

The expansive bridge deck features dual settees, a West Marine dunnage storage box, a 13' Boston Whaler with 40 hp motor and a Steelhead 1000lb. power rotation davit.

A very impressive feature of the A485 is the custom designed retractable stainless steel framed bimini top and radar arch that with a flip of a switch lowers down and aft to provide the yacht with extra clearance for bridges or when the tug is kept in covered moorage. The bimini/arch houses the Trac Vision SAT TV5 & Dummy dome, the Garmin 72-mile open array radar antenna, solar panels, GPS antenna and Spotlight.

Most of the tugs mechanical systems are in the spacious engine room. Engine room access is via a hatch in the aft section of the salon and one in the galley, both featuring ladders for easy egress. The engine room has plenty of room for complete maneuverability making repairs and maintenance easy.
