Overview

This is hull #4 of the semi-custom 52 Legacy series built by Freedom Yacht of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Her Bill Langan design is a wonderful study in proportions, lines, form and function, and its outstanding performance may even be more impressive than its looks. Twin 1050hp MAN diesels make her leap up onto plane and cut through a head sea delivering a soft landing. Fully loaded she weighs in at over 50,000 lbs. She offers a spacious two cabin, two head accommodations, yet still boasts a nimble and thrilling ride.

Vessel Walkthrough

Beginning aft, the cockpit is accessed from the 2' 5" deep leak swim platform through a starboard side transom door. There is a port side built-in cushioned settee forward on the port side and a stainless steel gradual ladder up to the flybridge to starboard. A large electrically opening hatch centerline forward gives access to the generous lazaretto and engine room with 5'5" headroom. The cockpit perimeter has treated teak cap rails. All exterior hardware is commercial grade 316L stainless steel, hawse pipes, cleats and deck hardware.

The flybridge features wrap around seating for eight surrounding a flip-up teak table and an insulated ice box attached forward of the helm console. A molded fiberglass bench seat for two has a storage locker to starboard and a small refrigerator to port. The helm station has excellent 360 degree visibility and all electronics and navigation equipment is duplicated or repeated. A Stratoglass panel wind screen slides in just forward of the helm. A fiberglass hardtop is supported with aluminum stanchions.

The bow is accessed via 19 inch wide side decks. There are treated teak rails capping raised toe kicks and double stainless steel handrails. Fully forward on the raised bow are two lockers. One for fender storage, the other for anchor chain storage. A freshwater wash down is adjacent to the anchor locker. Just aft of the bow is a large Sunbrella cushioned sun pad.

The salon is entered through a heavy duty Freeman sliding aluminum door. One is immediately impressed with the craftsmanship of raised panel satin finished American cherry joiner work which blends perfectly with the teak and holly sole as well as the Ultra Suede headliner throughout. There are large windows port, starboard and aft with curtains and Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades for privacy. The forward windshield has a snap-on exterior cover. Immediately to starboard is a new built-in refrigerator maker combo unit, followed by cabinetry housing the entertainment center with screen TV on an electric lift, audio/video components and bottle storage. All the way forward is the lower helm station with Stidd helm chair and complete navigation electronics suite. Directly across from the lower helm to port is the traditional companion navigators station complete with chart table and lounge. Aft to port is a large newly upholstered L-shaped settee and matching ottoman with interior storage which serves as additional seating or cocktail table. There are port and starboard sliding doors forward for direct access to the side decks.

Moving forward from the salon, you descend five steps down a large centerline stairway into an open atrium where the galley and dining areas are located. This space is perfect for entertaining with its atrium effect achieved by being located below the windshield to remain open above to the salon. The teak and holly sole continues from the galley/dinette area right up to the master stateroom forward.

To port is the galley with raised panel satin cherry cabinetry and drawers, Ubatuba granite counter tops and top of the line appliances. There is a new convection oven forward and two under-mounted white ceramic sinks aft. Behind the cherry paneled cabinets are two Sub Zero refrigerator drawer unites, a 15 bottle wine chiller and a Tundra electric freezer compartment under the counter top. An array of cabinets and deep storage areas are more than adequate for extended cruising. Across to starboard is an L-shaped dinette surrounded by more raised panel cabinetry. The ships electrical panels are concealed behind two raised panel doors aft in this area. Forward is a built-in 15" TV flanked by two glass storage cabinets.

Continuing forward in the companionway, immediately to starboard is the guest/day head followed by the guest stateroom. The head has a shower, sink, vanity and a Vacuflush toilet. There is also a second door in this head leading directly into the guest stateroom. The guest stateroom has upper and lower bunks with a large hanging locker and additional drawers under the lower bunk. Reading lights are at the head of each bunk. There is an overhead hatch and a port light at the upper bunk.

The master stateroom is forward and features a centerline queen berth with custom foam mattress and an en-suite with stall shower. There are two large hanging lockers to port and a large single locker on the starboard side of the cabin along with eight additional raised panel cabinets and four large drawers under the berth. A 26" flat screen TV is mounted on the starboard side at the foot of the bed. There are both port and starboard port lights and an overhead Bomar hatch which provide an abundance of natural light. A combination washer/dryer is located in a cabinet in the master head. In addition, there is an overhead Bomar hatch and port light in the head.
