Above on the fly bridge is a U-line undercounter refrigerator with an ice maker. In the lazarette area is a Sea Freeze custom freezer. The laundry is GE brand washer and dryer.

Well-appointed Accommodations include a full beam, king bed Owner’s Stateroom with ensuite head and shower, VIP cabin forward, port Guest cabin with side-by-side twin beds that convert to a double, an adjacent shared head and shower, a day head with vanity is located on the aft deck, an abundance of hanging lockers, drawers and storage compartments in all accommodation areas with the laundry forward.

You will be impressed with 6’ 8” headroom in the Engine room between the engines with ample room forward and outboard for accessibility to critical systems. The Reliable and efficient Caterpillar 12.9L Marine Diesel 1000 hp Main Engines with underwater exhaust and only 445 hours Managed by a 4-station Twin Disc EC300 electronic engine control system which includes 2-aft deck wing stations, are the heart of Performance offering high torque and low rated RPM providing excellent vessel control. Balancing the Robust drivetrain are Twin Disc QUICK SHIFT MGX-5136-A with 2.52 : 1 ratio gearboxes, HAWE Hydraulik PTO’s, Seatorque Shaft System with 3” AQUATECH HS #22 stainless steel propeller shafts, ZF D40” x P34.5” 5-blade propellers, QuicKutter™ Rope Cutters, stainless steel spade rudders and Sea Star steering.

A central hydraulic system powers the ABT stabilizer fins, Maxwell 3500 dual gypsy anchoring system and the ABT 25 hp each hydraulic bow and stern thrusters.

Exterior spaces on the main deck extend forward from the aft deck along deep, wide, and covered side decks to the Portuguese bridge and foredeck seating. At the Bow Area resides a Maxwell 3500 dual gypsy hydraulic anchoring system with a 50 kg polished stainless steel anchor, swivel and 300’ of chain, an 80 kg ULTRA polished stainless steel anchor, swivel and 500’ chain, adjacent anchor launch & retrieve foot pedal controls, separate chain lockers w/ easy access, a storage bin to port, washdowns and deck drains are positioned starboard to aid in cleanup.

Access to the Fly Bridge is either via aft deck molded stairs or by ascending the port side interior stairs in the Pilothouse. On the Fly Bridge deck forward and centerline is the helm area with Garmin electronics, a CAT engine display, 2-adjustable Pompanette Platinum Series helm chairs, and a molded in port side lounge with custom cushions.

The Centerpiece on the fly bridge is a large Corian hi-lo table for dining and entertainment, molded L-lounge with custom cushions, and an outdoor galley with Corian counter, sink and faucet, 30” DCS Propane Grill, refrigerator and ice maker. The Expansive fly bridge is protected from the grill area forward to the helm by the glare-resistant Hardtop. For accessing the topside, the shipyard included a custom folding stainless steel ladder that stows conveniently when not in use. Mounted on top are the antennas for GPS, VHF, Simrad HS60 GPS compass antenna, running/anchor light mast, Garmin gWind wind transducer, factory built custom array mast for the dual Garmin Radar and KVH HD7 Satellite TV system dome plus spare dome.

Aft of the outdoor galley, the Boat Deck section is a self-draining non-skid FRP deck area measuring 17’ fore to aft and 15’ 9” across presenting a fabulous multi-use area with plentiful space.

Port and starboard stainless steel Oval Railing with a welded mid-rail extend from the sides of the fore brow where an FRP non-skid walkway allows for cleaning the outer sides of the upper deck. The railings are joined aft by dual vinyl coated lifelines.

The 13’ Walker Bay Generation 400 DLX Tender w/ 50 hp Yamaha outboard and outfitted with a Garmin GPSMAP XS chart plotter is mounted fore and aft with launch options either to starboard or aft with the full extension, power rotation Steelhead 1750-pound capacity davit.

The 120V / 240V AC and Inverter breaker panel access in the lazarette area, and the 24V/12V DC breaker panel to starboard in the pilothouse are well labeled and back lit.

NMEA 2000 Certified manufacturer Garmin Electronics Suite components are installed at both the Fly Bridge and Lower Helm including Garmin 8617 GPSMAP MFD Touch-screen color displays with BlueChart preloaded maps. A Maretron Vessel Monitoring System supplies critical data to a 17” computer monitor at the pilothouse helm while a separate monitor is connected to the AXIS camera system with cameras located in the engine room (2), Aft Deck (2), side decks (1 each side), and beneath the fly bridge hardtop (1).

The Comfort climate control throughout the accommodations, main deck, lazarette and engine room is Dometic’s multi-zone chilled water air conditioning w/reverse cycle heat system. An Olympia Hydronic Diesel Furnace system with multi-zone controls is plumbed throughout the accommodations, main deck and lazarette. Thermostatically controlled King electric heaters are in the Owner (1) and VIP (1) staterooms.

A Blue Water 900 gallon per day Desalinization water making system is installed with a remote-control panel located at the galley.

Stepping aboard MAHALO, it’s the Solid feel in the balance and construction that draws you in.

Aboard the full width molded fiberglass non-skid swim platform, you note four sets of stainless steel staple railings with an extra set of storage receptacles for Flexibility to configure as necessary. Attached to one staple is a vertical rail that swivels to horizontal connecting the two inner staples for safety then back to vertical for Ease of boarding into and from the water, your tender and toys. Mounted in the swim step is the (in water) boarding ladder, aft corner recessed stainless steel Flip-up cleats for the tender and water toys, large, recessed stainless steel mooring Tie-down cleats, port and starboard shore power cords that will lay within Recessed shore power cable safety channels molded into the swim platform with flush, hinged covers help to keep the swim step clear of a possible trip hazard. Built into the substantial transom is an Aircraft style watertight transom door with a locking stainless steel ‘T’ handle for Convenient access to the lazarette, storage and engine room spaces when docked. Handy storage lockers are located port and starboard at the steps to the aft deck. Located in these storage areas is a dockside freshwater inlet, fresh, and raw water washdown hose connections as well as fresh water hot & cold transom shower.

Next, you Intuitively lay hold of a well-placed handrail and ascend the courtesy LED lit Gently Curved steps finished with teak treads to the aft deck, also teak finished forward to mid-ship along each side deck.

Situated on the aft deck between the custom stainless steel framed transom gates is the molded-in settee fitted with Custom upholstered cushion seats and seat backs. Adjacent and forward the settee is a gloss-finished Cherry wood full length oval dining table with ebony, holly & rosewood compass rose inlay. The table is mounted atop a molded fiberglass cabinet with storage, high pressure water hose reel, and quick connect air compressor connection. Positioned above the settee are a pair of Fusion stereo outdoor speakers and directed aft the (2) LED docking lights and (2) Axis cameras streaming video for security to an onboard display.

Confident docking is achieved with cleverly concealed engine and thruster control stations located port and starboard at the aft deck.

When lounging on the aft deck you have Unobstructed visibility forward through the salon and galley into the pilothouse. Not to be overlooked is the conveniently positioned Corian topped aft deck storage cabinet just outside the Locking stainless steel framed sliding salon door.

Overhead lighting is low power consumption, dimmable LED and the deck courtesy LED lighting has a soft non-glare blue hue. A Thoughtfully placed courtesy light is located next to the lock on the salon door for accessing at night.

For convenience and Functionality, the owners elected to construct MAHALO with an aft deck day head which includes a Techma toilet, Corian vanity and floor with drain, mirror and privacy door.

Flanking the aft deck port and starboard are hinged, opening FRP Boarding gates with oval stainless steel handrails.

Port and starboard wide covered Walkaround Decks, solid feeling bulwarks with comfortable grip oval stainless steel handrails mounted atop the gunwales, bright overhead LED and low-mounted blue LED courtesy lighting for the deck trail provide safe maneuvering about the main deck. Axis cameras, (1) per side are streaming video for security to an onboard display. Three stainless steel hawseholes with cleats are positioned along each side and accessible from inside or outside the vessel.

Moving forward from the aft deck are large embedded fixed frameless windows which allow natural light in while offering less worry for leaks. Engine room ventilation plenums are installed inside the bulwarks below the gunwales along the deck trails to minimize potential water intrusion into the engine room. Fueling both tanks simultaneously from one side is possible through the diesel fuel fill ports which are concealed behind a latched locker panel on the inboard side of the deck trail lessening overboard spill potential.

Robust aircraft style locking Pilothouse doors with screens are placed at each side for accessing to and from the interior main deck pilothouse and galley areas. The vessel’s freshwater fill is on the port deck trail just aft of the pilothouse door. A hatch covered compartment houses the mid-ship shore power electrical inlets. Phone and cable TV inlets are located here as well on the starboard side.

Crossing the Portuguese Bridge area in front of the pilothouse a cache of storage compartments large enough for fenders is situated below the windshield behind (3) large opening hatches. Directly across towards the foredeck, additional storage compartments for lines, life jackets and deck gear are beneath the foredeck bench seats with custom cushions and canvas covers on each side of centerline dual opening walk-through hatch with stainless steel safety latch.

The Foredeck is FRP non-skid with perimeter stainless steel oval handrail, welded mid-rail, bow rail with ensign staff, and gunwale mounted stanchions. A deck hatch for the VIP stateroom is located centerline between the Portuguese bridge entry and the Maxwell hydraulic anchor system with a custom canvas cover. At the bow are a polished stainless steel 50 kg Bruce anchor with 300’ chain, polished stainless steel 80 kg ULTRA anchor with 500’ chain, chain lockers, storage bin in port chain locker, (3) washdown outlets located in the starboard chain locker - fresh water w/ high pressure, additional w/ house pressure fresh water, and raw water, windlass foot pedal controls and recessed stainless steel hawseholes with bow cleats. Oversized open drain holes are molded into the sides of the bulwarks in addition to the (4) deck drains. The waste tank pump out fitting is to port of the portside foredeck bench seat.

Transitioning to the fly bridge from the aft deck is through a sliding overhead fiberglass hatch for Security and weather protection via fiberglass molded steps with teak treads and an oval stainless steel safety railing.

Crossing over the threshold of a stainless steel framed sliding glass door with retractable screen, you enter the Salon from the aft deck feeling the breadth and expanse through the interior main deck open floor plan to the pilothouse helm. Large frameless windows port, starboard and forward allowing voluminous amounts of natural light to fill the spaces have built-in window boxes which house custom electric shades for privacy. Overhead is the custom headliner, stylish Makore Cherry wood ceiling feature, LED task lighting combined with dimmable fixtures, soft indirect LED lighting at the perimeter above the windows and Polk speakers. Satin finished custom Makore Cherry panel cabinetry with stone tops highlights end tables, storage cabinets, the entertainment cabinet to port with a 46” Samsung TV on a lift w/ Fusion 755 stereo system, and Sony Blu-Ray player inside, and custom factory-built desk and chair w/ upholstered seat aft. Custom built furniture arranged in the salon is finished in luxurious fabrics and includes accent pillows, a starboard L-shaped sofa with storage below, two port side upholstered armchairs. Also, the salon electric lift hi-lo table and port aft corner of the salon stairway entry to the lazarette area satin finished custom Makore Cherry. The flooring is carpeted with special sound attenuating underlayment and pad. Up two steps to the Galley, a gloss Cherry and holly floor leads to the pilothouse and the galley floor is granite that will be heated when operating the diesel furnace zone here. Large opening windows port and starboard allow fresh air and voluminous amounts of natural light to fill the spaces have built-in window boxes which house custom electric shades for privacy. Overhead is the custom headliner, LED task lighting combined with dimmable fixtures. Satin finished custom panel cabinetry throughout the galley provides an abundance of storage above and below granite counters. A forward offset granite galley counter for serving has well-placed custom coat hooks mounted underneath for organizing jackets and life vests, a built-in shoe rack, and is accompanied by a custom Makore Cherry bar stool w/ an upholstered cushion. Beneath the foyer companionway and into the painted forward bilge through a finished hatch is a well-lit area for access to storage, the ABT hydraulic bow thruster servicing, and plumbing runs.

A separate thermostat-controlled King electric heater is installed to port. USB charge port and 110VAC outlets provide on demand power.

The Port stateroom has a versatile and functional arrangement for guests with side-by-side twin beds (the inboard bed slides to port to make a full size bed) with custom mattresses, bedding and pillows, storage drawers and stone top night stand, custom mirrored wall panel above, satin finished custom panel Makore Cherry cabinetry with latching chrome cabinet, drawer and door hardware, custom headliner and wall fabrics, LED lighting fixtures, reading lights at each side, Makore Cherry wood and holly flooring, cedar-lined hanging clothes locker, separate entrance to the well-appointed guest head. The Lazarette area is accessed aft in the port salon at a curved stairway with Cherry wood treads, at the base of the stairs is a Makore Cherry wood and holly floor. Another entrance when at dock is through the swim step transom aircraft style hatch. The flooring is rubberized EcoFloor with diamond pattern. The Workspace area portside has the AC electrical panel, remote generator start switches, inverter remote panel and shore power selector switches, a built-in Sea Freeze custom freezer with storage cabinets below, aft is house battery storage, open access to the Magnum inverter, Mastervolt chargers & converter. At centerline is a peninsula cabinet with Corian solid surface countertop, stainless steel sink, storage below, above, and a GE trash compactor beside. Located aft to port of the transom is an enclosed FRP storage closet with deep shelving. To starboard an Ultraline Reel for stern ties is stored to starboard on a custom mount, the NRG Marine SONIHULL Ultrasonic anti-fouling technology display, ICOM VHF COMMANDMIC, Blue Water desalinization system and filter access, Torrid 40-gallon hot water heater, storage shelving, Craftsman built-in tool chest with rubberized top and vise, the balance of ship’s manuals and Factory provided manual. Deck-mounted tie-downs are flush mounted. Climate control comfort is provided by chilled water air conditioning with reverse cycle heat as well as a separate diesel furnace control and outlet. Mounted at the ceiling above the tool chest is an emergency fire suppression release. LED lighting fixtures and a pair of opening screened portlights for fresh air and natural light provide a bright environment. USB charge port and 110VAC outlets provide on demand power.

MAHALO’s Sellers are Pacific Northwest residents and Hawaii has long been a magical and peaceful destination for them because it combines beauty, escape, release, and relaxation like no other place.

They have described their yacht as providing at home a way to escape and enjoy the sense of magical release while cruising.

When it came time to name their yacht, they reflected on how much each-other has to be grateful for and wanted to tie in an expression of their gratitude. Because of their connection to Hawaii, they decided on MAHALO which translates to “express gratitude” in the Hawaiian language.

While attending boat shows and especially the Trawlerfest events since the early 1990’s, they paid close attention to full displacement as well as semi-displacement hulls in the 45 – 70 foot range. This meant brands such as Nordhavn, Northern Marine, Fleming, Outer Reef, Selene, Kadey-Krogen, American Tug and Nordic Tug ‘populated their radar’.

Narrowing the field for decision, the focus turned to key elements such as choosing an LRC Motor Yacht with a semi-displacement hull which allowed for more speed when called for, a size model to cruise three to four months at a time while comfortably accommodating family / friends guests to join from time to time, ease of safe transitional access throughout the vessel without climbing ladders or crawling into cramped spaces, and built to be compliant with marine industry regulations by a shipyard that is known for delivering yachts on time and within budget.

It was while attending the 2017 Trawlerfest in Bremerton, Washington that the Sellers had their first encounter aboard the Hampton Endurance 658 LRC Motor Yacht and quickly discovered this yacht aligned with their checklist more than any other.

Soon after their vision of building a semi-custom yacht to enjoy cruising the waters of the Pacific Northwest landed with Hampton Yachts the Sellers stated, “Building our own yacht meant we could customize various areas, and during the process we were very excited to travel to the shipyard, see our yacht, and meet all the crafts people involved.”

Throughout the build process the Sellers were active and instrumental with innovative solutions to ergonomics, safety features, and task management.
