Zeelander 68 – It's Here!
The Zeelander 68 will be making its debut at the 2014 Miami Brokerage & Yacht Show, and 26 North Yachts can’t wait to get our clients on this timeless vessel. In fact, we’ll have a salesperson on the display during the show. Originally built for the fastidious owner of Zeelander, it offers a big step up for those in the Zeelander 44 or for those interested in a sophisticated, head turning motoryacht that’s quiet and comfortable and easy to operate and maintain in this range. Attention to the finest detail is what is setting Zeelanders apart from other similarly purposed boats. In fact, one online blogger noted, “The attention to detail is on a different level to anything I’ve come across previously.”
This particular 2013 model had design input by Cor D. Rover and Zeelander Design (including the owner), naval architecture by Ginton Naval Architects and construction by Zeelander Shipyard Holland. Her beam is almost 20 feet with a draft of about 6.5 feet. She distinctively sports iconic metallic paint on her hull and superstructure. A Koopnautic stabilizer system allows comfortable riding in rough seas.
Exterior styling is complemented by seamless stainless rails in a low profile around the vessel. The cap rail (and windshield frame) mimic a dark, rich wood but is synthetic and therefore easier to maintain. Teak-like Esthec composite decking throughout also makes for easy cleaning, maintenance and sure-footing. Interiors sport the finest woods, leathers, wools and metals.
The two upper decks are all about entertaining, and the wheelhouse combines the saloon, galley and lower helm with great views forward. Just aft of the lower helm, which integrates the helmsman’s chair into the salon sofa with a hinged back rest, is a large, elegantly-curved dinette that seats 10. Aft of the dining area is the teak-floored galley with refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, cook top, instant hot water, Nespresso coffee machine and large wine cooler. Here, there is a breakfast bar with five bar stools. (A large freezer is located opposite the engine room entrance below decks as is the washer/dryer combo unit.) A three-piece aft door opens up the full width of the saloon, inviting the outside in, assisted by large panoramic windows throughout this deck. Aft deck seating covered by an overhang contains storage hatches under the cushions. An adjustable, sliding teak table makes entertaining a snap.
A remote controlled hatch on the fore deck reveals a Williams Tender with diesel water jet, Sea Doo RXT water craft and hydraulic tender crane. The stern platform is also remote controlled and integrates a swimming ladder. Sunbathing can be had here on the swim platform or on the bow.
There are four cabins (all queen-sized beds) belowdecks: ensuite master cabin aft and ensuite VIP cabin forward and two guest cabins that share a day head. They all boast “super yacht” port lights that adequately illuminate the cabins during the day, accenting the teak flooring throughout. The master features a walk-in closet with drawers, vanity area and bath with bidet and thermostatic shower. The VIP and guest bath both feature a sauna/steam/shower cabin.
The engine bay is also contained on this deck, outfitted for serious oceanic voyages. The sound insulation and vibration control on the 68 is remarkable thanks to Sjaak van Cappellen. Zeelander’s 68 is powered by twin diesel MTU 8V2000M93s, 895 kW (1200 hp) @ 2450 rpm—providing maximum fuel efficiency. Joystick controls for the bow and stern thrusters and autopilot remote control come standard in both helms.
The teak-like-floored flybridge boasts a wrap-around seating area forward with a leather pilot two-seater aft adjacent to the helm. This level also includes teak adjustable tables, a wet bar with refrigerator and sink with hot and cold water.
Zeelander hails from The Netherlands with their production facility now located at Tiara’s yard in Holland, Michigan. They earned their stripes with the Z44, and a 55 will soon be on its way to bridge the gap between the 44 and the 68.
